ZERO MOVIE REVIEW : WORTH IT OR NOT?

One of the most anticipated movie of the year, Zero has finally hit the theaters today. The film that stars Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in lead roles has started off nicely at the box office but is the movie worth your money or not? Let's find out.

Story :

The movie revolves around the about a vertically challenged man’s attempt to balance his love for a cerebral palsy-affected scientist with his adoration of a movie star ends up as an unintended circus act. It involves A-list actors, respectable performers cast as extras, a swooning Ajay-Atul score and cameos by Bollywood royalty. This opening act shows promise and Shah Rukh seems he belongs in Anand L Rai’s scheme of things—small town set-up, quirky dialogues, carefree attitude and a possibility of bizarre romances but as they say, " For the wise man looks into space, there is no dimension" - Same goes for this story as there is no dimension and no storyline in the second half. The first half is promising and is full of entertainment, quirky dialogues and superb performances but it falls flat on face in the second half.

Performances :

Shah Rukh Khan as Bauua Singh shines bright as ever. Shah Rukh Khan’s earnest performance is always undercut by the visual effects that render him as a pint-sized version of himself. He is the most wanted actor right now and is in top-notch form currently. Anushka Sharma is in her character completely. Anushka has nailed her performance yet again and you would start believing in the character which she plays. Katrina, on the other hand has got just 25 minutes of show time but it's the best what she could have played. Anand knows where to hit the ball out of the stadium and he has exactly the same with Katrina's role and character. Supporting cast is outstanding and everyone has performed comparatively well.

Direction and Editing :

IN ZERO, SHAH RUKH KHAN WILL REPEAT WHAT HE DID IN SWADES IN ZERO, SHAH RUKH KHAN WILL REPEAT WHAT HE DID IN SWADES

Aanand L Rai is known for his direction to be too good to be true but this time, the scenario has changed a bit. The first half is simply amazing and wants you to never end but the second half is completely opposite as it falls flat on the face. Editing is superb as it's a never seen VFX in some of the scenes but again, the second half is too lengthy and should have been edited and cut at-least 20 minutes of the run time.

Conclusion :

With the last visual treat of SriDevi, and a lot of Bollywood Celebs coming in for a scene with a cameo of Bhaijaan dancing together on the beats with Shah Rukh Khan, Zero can be watched once. If you have nothing to do this weekend, go out with your family for this one. For me, it's a 3/5 just for the extra-ordinary performances of the actors.
