He came to Mumbai in 2001 to start his career. After this, Kailash Kher was asked to sing a jingle for Nakshatra Heere. But later that jingle was prepared in someone else's voice. However, he was given 5 thousand rupees for this song.

Famous singer Kailash Kher, who ruled millions of hearts with his Sufi style and a voice different from his contemporary singers, turned 50 years old today!

His song Bam Lahiri won many accolades and brought his popularity via this song, as this touched the hearts of many Shiva Devotees. A few years ago when the song 'Allah ke bande hans de...' used to be played on TV and radio, everyone would stop to listen to this song and could not stop asking who sang this song or which film it was from. Yes, Kailash Kher gained popularity in the industry with this song, but the journey till here was not easy for him.

Kailash Kher spent his days in poverty in Mumbai and there came a time in his life when he wanted to end his life after losing everything.
He left home at the age of 12 for music, and once even tried to commit suicide!

In 2011, He composed a song called "Ambar Tak Yehi Naad Goonjega" for the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare which is popularly known as the "India Against Corruption Movement". Kailash didn't charge a professional fee for singing this song.

He also lent his voice to the Clean India Mission theme song, 'Swachha Bharat Ka Irada Kar Liya Humne', whose lyrics are by Prasoon Joshi. Taking forward the Clean India Mission, Kher visited several places in the PM's parliamentary constituency drawing praise from Narendra Modi.
