Richa Chadha was born on December 18, 1986, in Amritsar, Punjab, to a Punjabi father, Somesh Chadha, and a Bihari mother, Kusum Lata. Her father owns a management firm, and her mother is a professor of political science at PGDAV College, Delhi University. Richa studied at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and later graduated from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi.

Richa Chadha began her career as a model and then moved into theater, where she acted in plays under the guidance of Barry John. For a time, she also worked as a writer for a magazine. In 2006, she wrote and directed a documentary film titled "Rooted in Hope."
Acting Debut
Her acting debut was with a small role in the comedy film "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!" (2008), directed by Dibakar Banerjee.
