Richa Chadha was born on December 18, 1986, in Amritsar, Punjab, to a Punjabi father, Somesh Chadha, and a Bihari mother, Kusum Lata. Her father owns a management firm, and her mother is a professor of political science at PGDAV College, Delhi University. Richa studied at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and later graduated from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi.

Career

Richa Chadha began her career as a model and then moved into theater, where she acted in plays under the guidance of Barry John. For a time, she also worked as a writer for a magazine. In 2006, she wrote and directed a documentary film titled "Rooted in Hope."

Acting Debut

Her acting debut was with a small role in the comedy film "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!" (2008), directed by Dibakar Banerjee. Richa gained recognition with Anurag Kashyap's crime drama "Gangs of Wasseypur" (2012), where she played Nagma Khatoon, the ill-tempered wife of Sardar Khan, played by Manoj Bajpayee, and the mother of Faizal Khan, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
