Javed Akhtar Remembers the ‘Lakshya’ Days

During the launch, Javed Akhtar recalled memories from the time of ‘Lakshya’, directed by Farhan Akhtar, and praised the Indian Army. He said, “When I decided to go to Dras, Operation Vijay was underway. The war was still on. A year later, General Arjun Ray invited me to Tawang for the first anniversary of Operation Vijay. Tawang, after Siberia, is one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth. A war memorial was built there, and only two people addressed the Army that day — General Arjun Ray and I.

They allowed me to visit several regiments, stay with them, and understand their world closely. That’s when I realized — the Army isn’t just about uniforms; it’s a complete culture, a way of life. They are extraordinary people — we can learn so much from them.

Later, when I wrote ‘Lakshya’, I met several officers again to ensure authenticity in language and expression. It was a deeply enriching experience. I truly believe that every Indian holds immense respect for the Indian Army — perhaps the most revered institution in our country.”

“I’m the Third Character in Every Song” – Sukhwinder Singh

Renowned singer Sukhwinder Singh said in his signature style, “Every song is a team effort. When Javed Saab adds his lines, the atmosphere just transforms. I always consider myself the third character in a song — the one who breathes life into it through voice.”

Adding to that, Salim–Sulaiman said, “When you have words penned by Javed Saab, the process becomes not difficult but deeply inspiring. And Sukhwinder’s voice already carries immense passion.”

Director Razy Ghai shared, “I first heard this story as a child. My father was in the Army, and years later, my brother reminded me of it. That’s when I decided I had to make this film. It took years, but when the right people came together, the dream took shape. This film is my labor of love — I hope audiences will feel it.”
He added,
“This is only my second film, but perhaps the most powerful story I’ll ever tell. When people watch it on November 21, it won’t just be our film — it will belong to every Indian.”

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani on Bringing a True Story to the Screen

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani said, “It’s never easy to bring a true story to the big screen. You have to balance cinematic experience with authenticity. We made sure to retain the bravery, emotions, and truth of this story. With dialogue writers like Rajeev and Sumeet, and a captain like Razy, it became possible. This is a story of soldiers who walked knowingly into death — so it had to be told with utmost sensitivity.”

“Every Time I Work With Javed Saab, I Become a Fanboy” – Amit Trivedi

Music composer Amit Trivedi said, “I’ve worked with Javed Saab many times, and each time I turn into a fanboy. When he writes lyrics for my tunes, the melody finds its soul. His words bring life into every composition.”
Singer Asees Kaur added, “When I learned that Javed Akhtar had written the song, I felt an even greater responsibility. I didn’t just sing it as a romantic song but from the perspective of a woman sending her beloved to the border — it’s a story of love and sacrifice.”

Raashii Khanna on Playing an Army Wife

Actress Raashii Khanna, who plays the wife of a soldier, said, “Portraying an Army wife was an emotional experience. Every scene carried the fear that her beloved might not return. To feel both pain and strength at once was challenging. With the support of Farhan sir and Razy sir, I could bring that emotion alive.”
