A portion of the film’s proceeds will be dedicated to the rehabilitation of Hindu refugees who fled religious persecution in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

A new chapter is about to be written in the history of Indian cinema. “2020 Delhi,” India’s first one-shot (single-take) full-length Hindi feature film, is set for a nationwide theatrical release on November 14. The film, running two hours and sixteen minutes without a single cut, has been written, directed, and produced by Devendra Malviya.
Malviya states,

“This is not a propaganda film but a symbol of truth, empathy, and freedom of expression. It gives voice to those silenced by political noise. Through an unbroken lens, ‘2020 Delhi’ invites the audience to experience reality as it unfolded — raw, unfiltered, and unedited. It urges viewers to think, question, and reconnect with their own conscience.”

A story rooted in truth and turmoil

Set against the backdrop of the Delhi riots of 2020 and the humanitarian crisis surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), “2020 Delhi” portrays the anguish of Hindu minorities persecuted in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and the conspiracies that sought to divide India under the guise of protest.
The film exposes how organized forces attempted to weaken India’s unity and cultural identity, reminding audiences that when political noise grows louder, the vision to see truth becomes even more essential.

Controversy and triumph of expression

The film faced significant political opposition. Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi demanded a permanent ban on its release, while Sharjeel Imam and Mahmood Pracha were among those who filed multiple petitions in court.
Eight petitions in total were submitted before the Delhi and Punjab–Haryana High Courts — all of which were dismissed.
Following these legal battles, “2020 Delhi” was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA 16+ rating, standing as a testament to the power of creative freedom and the courage of independent filmmaking.

An independent cinematic revolution

Featuring acclaimed actors Brijendra Kala, Samar Jai Singh, Siddharth Bhardwaj, Bhupesh Singh, Chetan Sharma, Aakashdeep Arora, and Deeksha Asthana, the film also brings together the efforts of over 300 artists and technicians from Madhya Pradesh, making it a proud milestone for regional Indian talent.

Director-producer Devendra Malviya describes “2020 Delhi” as a purely independent film, created without any Bollywood studio backing:

“I mortgaged my own home and land to complete this project — it took three years of relentless effort to achieve a perfect one-shot execution. The technique is extremely demanding, risky, and expensive. Bollywood has never attempted anything like it before.”

He adds,

“Those who make films on nationalist themes are often labeled as propagandists or technically inferior by certain sections of the film industry and its ecosystem. ‘2020 Delhi’ is our answer — proof that cinema rooted in truth and patriotism can also be global, innovative, and thrilling. It redefines what Indian filmmaking can achieve.”

A cinematic experiment with purpose

A share of the film’s revenue will go toward the rehabilitation of Hindu refugees who escaped religious persecution in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The film’s trailer has already generated widespread attention and acclaim on social media. When “2020 Delhi” hits theaters on November 14, audiences will witness a cinematic experiment unlike anything ever attempted in Indian film history — a fusion of truth, courage, and innovation in a single continuous take.
