After so many years, when Sanam Teri Kasam started getting love again, did you expect such a re-loving response?
Harshvardhan Rane: Sometimes when people pray in temples, it takes years for those prayers to be answered. Just because you ask God for something doesn’t mean you’ll get it instantly. Our job is to keep working with full dedication. In my case, it took time, but my prayers were finally answered — people began to recognize me.

You did great work in Punjabi films, but it took a while to reach Bollywood. Was that a planned move or something that happened naturally?
Sonam Bajwa: Everything in life happens at the right time. I had received offers earlier too, but I said yes or no based on my own understanding. Maybe God chose this year for me to begin my Bollywood journey. Now that I’m doing Hindi films, I hope I continue to get such meaningful roles.

Do you ever feel that doing too many romantic roles might limit your acting range?
Harshvardhan Rane: Not at all. I don’t mind doing similar kinds of roles. For me, nothing in life is greater than romance. I truly enjoy this genre.

When you were offered this role, what made you say yes? Was it easy or challenging to play?
Sonam Bajwa: I really enjoyed playing this character because it gave me a lot of scope to perform. Whatever I was given to do, I did it wholeheartedly. The role was challenging, and that made it even more fun. I was happy that I got a character that allowed me to do everything I wanted to try.

When the film received such a huge response right after its release, what was your first reaction?
Harshvardhan Rane: The first thing I felt was relief that I wouldn’t have to go out on the streets putting up posters myself anymore! But the very next moment, I thought — maybe I should go out and thank people personally. Staying grounded, I believe, is the best thing for me.

You’ve spoken about nepotism in a very different and positive light — did that perspective come from your own struggles?
Harshvardhan Rane: I never want to say anything emotional that might hurt someone. What I want to say, with full awareness, is that this word “nepotism” has been turned into something that scares young artists — like telling a child, “Don’t go into the jungle, there’s a ghost there.”
I just want to tell everyone — there’s no ghost in the jungle. This idea of nepotism is like an imaginary ghost. My goal in life is to remove this fear from the minds of aspiring actors. Come into the jungle — bring your mat, your lunchbox, your instruments. Yes, there will be challenges, but don’t be afraid of them; be prepared for them.

I’ve said all this to remove that unnecessary fear — that “nepotism exists, we won’t get work.” Look at this Diwali — two outsiders’ films released successfully. So if nepotism ever existed, you’ve already defeated it. The list I often mention includes Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Irrfan Khan — all of them came from outside the industry. And in this year’s new list, we have Raghav Juyal, Rohit Saraf, Bhuvan Bam, and Lakshya Lalwani.
So, where is this word nepotism now? It simply doesn’t exist. My only request is — stop turning it into a bogeyman.
