Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh are busy promoting their upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. At a recently held media event, Aamir, Genelia, and director R.S. Prasanna spoke candidly about the film. Aamir opened up about his initial indecisiveness about doing the project and also praised Genelia’s performance, while Genelia shared her joy about working with Aamir.

Aamir Khan Shared His Confusion

Speaking at the event, Aamir revealed that he was initially unsure whether he wanted to be a part of the film. "First, I said I’m not doing this film. Then I called back and said – yes, I’m doing it. Then I called again and said – no, I’m not doing it. Then I said, since Farhan and Shiva are on board… now you’ll have to see what happens with the casting, because now everything will be decided by the director."

He also mentioned that he wasn’t the only one who was uncertain — another actress was also in an “on-off, on-off” mode about the film. However, Aamir said he kept the team informed about every change, highlighting the importance of constant communication between actors and the production team to maintain clarity and direction.

Reacting to this, Genelia said, “When I finally heard that Aamir was doing the film, I was thrilled. But then I thought — am I still doing it?”

Aamir Praises Genelia

Aamir took a moment to shower praise on Genelia, saying, “The camera absolutely loves her. She breathes life into every frame she’s in. Right from her first film, she has been a fantastic actor, and she’s only gotten better over the years. Her work is always authentic and deeply moving. She’s the kind of performer anyone would want to work with.”

Speaking to the press, Genelia reflected on her return to Aamir Khan Productions: “‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ will always be special to me. It gave me the character of Aditi, who is still remembered by audiences. But Sitaare Zameen Par is very different. I’m in a new phase of life, and my acting has evolved. Returning to the screen as Sunita feels incredibly fulfilling.”

Director R.S. Prasanna, known for his emotionally sensitive storytelling, shared his experience of casting Genelia. He revealed that it was Aamir who had suggested her name for the lead role.

Prasanna said, “When you’re working with actors like Aamir and Genelia, there’s not much left for the director to do. They are both emotionally intelligent and incredibly authentic. It makes the director’s job easier — and far more satisfying. Watching their on-screen chemistry is beautiful.”
He also noted that Aamir is known for giving 100% to every project and expects the same from those around him.

Produced by Aamir Khan, Aparna Purohit, and Ravi Bhagchandka, the film is written by Divya Nidhi Sharma and directed by R.S. Prasanna.
