'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is a 2013 Bollywood film that had been very popular among the youth and families of the changing times with some thought-provoking facts. The film is based on the theme of how today's youth have different thoughts and ideas in their hearts and minds and how the surge of youth becomes stable. It is directed by renowned filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar and Hiroo Yash Johar under Dharma Productions, one of Bollywood's most famous banners. The production of 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' was a grand affair. The film was shot in the most beautiful places in India and abroad. The filmmakers took the cast and crew to Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Kashmir and even Paris, making it a great visual treat for the audience. The shooting began in March 2012 and went on till January 2013, taking almost a year to complete. The production budget was Rs 75 crore, which was a lot even for a big Bollywood film in those days. Cinematography was handled by V. Manikandan, whose beautiful camera work made every scene magical.
The story revolves around five friends- Bunny Kabir Thapar (Ranbir Kapoor), Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone), Aditi aka Adi Mehra (Kalki Kochli), Avinash aka Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Kunal Taran Khanna (Kunal Roy Kapur). Bunny is a free-spirited, carefree guy who loves to travel and explore new places. Naina is a studious, family-oriented medical student who one day goes on a trekking trip with her school friends. During the trip, she falls in love with Bunny Thapar but is too shy to express her feelings. After that trip, Bunny leaves India to pursue his free-spirited dreams and the friends part ways.
Eight years later, the friends reunite at Aditi's wedding. Naina is now a doctor and Bunny is a travel show host. Bunny reveals that he is going abroad again. During this meeting, old memories and emotions start to resurface. Bunny realises that aimless travelling and having time pass enjoyment is just youthful fun, real life is about peace, stability, commitment and family. Thus, Bunny gives up on going abroad and Naina and he unite.
The film has a lot of scenes of happiness, sadness, fights and dance. It is said to be a complete family entertainer.
The music of 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is one of its biggest strengths. Renowned music director Pritam has composed all the songs. The lyrics are primarily written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, along with Kumaar. The film's soundtrack was a huge hit, which includes songs like "Badtameez Dil", "Balam Pichkari", "Kabira", "Elahi" and "Dilli Wali Girlfriend". These songs are still popular at weddings and parties and Holi celebrations. The film's choreographers Remo D'Souza, Ganesh Acharya and Farah Khan made every dance sequence memorable.
There are many interesting stories behind the making of this film. This was the second time Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone worked together after their previous hit film (Bachna Ae Haseeno). Their chemistry on screen was highlighting their mutual love. The song "Balam Pichkari" was shot during Holi, and the cast and crew had a lot of fun with colours.
Madhuri Dixit's special appearance in "Ghaghra" was a big surprise for the audience. The song was choreographed by Farah Khan.

The title of the film was inspired by the popular song 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Haq Meri Rani' from the 1972 film 'Jawani Deewani', which also had the theme of youth and romance and had Ranbir Kapoor's uncle Randhir Kapoor as the hero. However, the stories are different.
The trekking scenes were shot in real locations in Himachal Pradesh, and the cast had to endure bone-chilling cold and tough conditions.
The wedding scenes were shot in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This is the same place where many Bollywood celebrities get married.
To make the friendship and love between the characters look real, the producer-director sent the entire cast on a long journey to spend as much time together as possible. The journey was supposed to take 6 hours, but everyone was amused when Ranbir spent most of the time looking for a hotel with butter chicken. Because of this, the journey took almost 14 hours.
The music of the film was released before the film, and the songs became instant hits, leading to a lot of excitement for the release of the film.
The film stars real brothers Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Roy Kapur as friends . They share only one scene together in the entire film.
The film was released in cinemas in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
Actor Ranbir Kapoor gave many consecutive hit films after Rockstar and Barfi. This film is also one of them.
The intro rap song "Dilliwali Girlfriend" of the film 'Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani' was inspired by another song "Aage Aage Dekhe Ja" of the film 'Life Partner'.
If reports are to be believed, actor Muzammil Ibrahim was the first choice for the role of Aditya Roy Kapoor in the film.
Most of the film was shot in Udaipur Palace in Rajasthan, India. The wedding scene was shot at the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur.
Actor Bobby Deol was offered the role of Taran Khanna, but because he was busy shooting for 'Yamla Pagla Deewana 2' in 2013, he could not do it.
It is also said that Katrina Kaif was the first choice for Deepika's role.
Director-actor Ayan Mukerji made a small cameo in the film when Ranbir Kapoor was singing the song "Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein Khayal Aata Hai" at Aditi's wedding.
The romantic background music in the film is actually a slow version of the song "Desi Romance (Shaadi Ke Side Effects)". Pritam is the music composer of this film and a few others.
This film was the highest grossing film for Ranbir Kapoor and producer Karan Johar for five years. The two delivered their next biggest hits in 2018, 'Sanju' and 'Simmba'.
For this film, Ranbir Kapoor got his ears pierced for the first time.
Ranbir Kapoor was the first and last choice for the lead role. In fact, the script was written specifically for him.
Big Indian films in Bollywood often release around festivals like Christmas, Eid, Diwali etc. but this film was the highest grossing film without being released in any festive season.
