Asad Bhopali was born on 10 July 1921 in the cultural city of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. His real name was Asadullah Khan. His father, Munshi Ahmed Khan, was a teacher of Arabic and Persian. Asad, who grew up in a literary environment, loved poetry since childhood. He used to write and recite poems and ghazals during his college days.

They gave Asad Bhopali a chance to write songs for the film 'Duniya' because the then lyricist Arzoo Luckhnavi had gone to Pakistan after the partition. He had eight children from his first wife, while from his second wife he had a son, Ghalib Asad Bhopali, who later became a writer himself.
