How Manoj Muntashir became Manoj Shukla

It was the year 1997, late winter night, Manoj Shukla came out of his house in search of tea. After a lot of searching, he saw a hut where he heard the word “Muntashir” for the first time on the radio. Manoj liked this name and with the last sip of tea, he decided that from now on he is not Manoj Shukla but Manoj Muntashir. Now the naming ceremony is done but how to tell this to father. I feel like having a heart attack after listening to them, but the news has to be reported. For this Manoj came up with an idea. He changed the nameplate of his house which was in the name of Manoj Shukla to Manoj Muntashir.

At first, there was a lot of uproar in the house regarding the name. Father began to suspect that Manoj might have converted his religion. His blood was draining just thinking about it. Then Manoj's mother explained to her husband that this is Manoj's pen name like poets keep their names. Manoj's father was still not ready to accept but he too could not say anything in front of his son's insistence. This is how Manoj Shukla became Manoj Muntashir but the journey ahead had not yet started. Many challenges remained to be faced.

From the soft bed of Gauriganj to sleeping on the footpath of Mumbai

In the year 1999, Manoj reached the city of dreams Mumbai. There are challenges in everyone's life but one thing I can say with certainty is that if there was any other person in Manoj's place, he would have given up and returned to his city because getting up from the comfortable bed of Gauriganj and sleeping on the footpath of Mumbai is not easy. It's not anyone's business. Muntashir may mean scattered but even in this situation, Manoj did not allow himself to be Muntashir.

Manoj says that he likes tea very much but leaves tea, he does not even get two meals a day. He had also forgotten what the smell of bread was. When he lived on the footpath, he used to recite poetry to the people there. People who came to listen to his poetry kept bringing him something to eat every evening.

This is how Muntashir earned my first income.

One day, while living on the footpath, he came to meet Bhajan emperor Anup Jalota. Manoj knew that it was easiest to meet him because Anup Jalota met the person who was from his city Amethi. Manoj just found a way to meet him.

Manoj told Anup Jalota that he writes bhajans. He asked him to write but Manoj had never written a bhajan. Due to his greed for tea, Manoj started writing so that by the time he wrote the bhajan, tea would be available. Anup Jalota read the bhajan and gave him a check of Rs 3000 in return for writing the bhajan.

Manoj could not believe his eyes. He ran to the bank first to see if this was a dream. When he saw 30 Rs 100 notes in his hand, he could not believe it. This is how Manoj earned his first income. The interesting thing is that Anup Jalota never recorded that bhajan but when Manoj asks him about this, he laughs it off.

Muntashir got his first work in Amitabh Bachchan's show

Time passed. Things got better than before. In the year 2002, Manoj wrote the show “Yatra” which was a travel show telecast on Star Plus. Only after that show, when megastar Amitabh Bachchan called him to meet, Manoj could not believe it. Frightened he sat in front of Big B. Big B asked him to recite poetry. After listening to Manoj's poetry, Big B said that his voice is very good. Just that day Manoj believed in himself that now he could do anything. Amitabh Bachchan had praised his voice.

A little patience, hard work, and self-confidence achieved what was not even imagined. He got a chance to work in Amitabh Bachchan's famous show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”.

Manoj Muntashir's Success came from the 40th song

He wrote many songs but his 40th song “Teri Galiyan” proved to be a super hit. After this, it was impossible to stop Manoj. After writing many songs and doing many heat shows, today Manoj is at the place where he had once dreamed of reaching.

Said goodbye to award shows

In the year 2019, when the song “Teri Mitti” written by him was nominated for the film Gully Boy and did not get the award, Manoj could not tolerate the insult of this song. He wrote a tweet and said goodbye to awards shows forever.

He had written, 'Dear Awards, even if I try my whole life, I will not be able to write a better line than 'Tu kehti thi tera chand hoon main aur chanda hamesha rahta hai'. You failed to honor the words that made millions of Indians cry out for their motherland and care for them. It would be a great insult to my art if I were to continue taking care of you. So here I am bidding you a final goodbye. I officially declare - I will not attend any award show till my last breath. Goodbye.'
