The countdown has begun for the much-awaited release ( Nov 14) of the multi-lingual Pan-India intense-action-emotional-thriller ‘period’ film MATKA’ Featuring the tall, macho, and handsome South Mega-Prince star Varun Tej playing the macho title role of Vasu, which showcases him in a variety of contrasting looks, costumes and get-ups. The movie ‘MATKA' written and directed by genius Karuna Kumar reveals the sensational success story ( from 1958 up to 1982—24 years) from rags-to-riches and controlling a country-wide gambling mafia empire.
This ‘period’ movie MATKA is inspired by real-life Mumbai-based ‘Matka-King’ Ratan Khatri who was the brain-wave behind nationwide multi-million empire (illegal daily evening lottery draws) gambling, which was operated on weekdays. The results were declared in the late evening from Bombay( Mumbai) and communicated ‘instantly’ across multiple cities across India, although there were only telephonic land-lines available in the yesteryear era...
As most people are aware, MATKA movie hero Konidela Sai Varun Tej happens to be the son of veteran actor-politician Nagendra (“Naga”) Babu and the nephew of iconic South superstar Chiranjeevi’s nephew. Not surprisingly, Varun has the best wishes and blessings of his legendary ‘uncle’ Chiranjeevi-Sir... Reacting to his family background, modest Varun shares that ‘ mega-star Chiranjeevi has been his sole inspiration to get into acting. Our movie Matka–Vasu is a mass entertainer filled with action, thrill, songs, and powerful dialogues. I’m confident that there’s something in this film for everyone. There could be subtle inspirations drawn from iconic actors like Marlon Brando ( ‘Godfather’) and Amitabh Bachchan-Sir ( from Deewaar etc) but there is no imitation or copying in my multi-layered powerful intense role of Vasu, which writer-director Karuna Kumar has brilliantly brought to life and all of us have worked very hard, “ clarifies Varun Tej.
When asked whether he has indulged in any real-life gambling because on-screen he plays the ‘Matka King, the quick-witted Varun has a smart logical response. “ Reacts Varun, “Acting in movies itself, I am gambling with my life, Because showbiz is a risky business we are in. There cannot be a bigger gamble than this. We put in 300 days of hard work and cinematic creativity. But we get the result-verdict on Day One of the release or maybe even just after three hours,” smiles Varun who also explains that now language barriers have been erased in Indian cinema. Interestingly, Varun’s heroine Dr. Meenakshi Chaudhary belongs to Haryana, while Mumbai-based actress-dancer Nora Fatehi is originally Canadian-born.
Both Dr Vijender Reddy Teegala and Aneesh Dev assure us that ‘MATKA is a heady cinematic cocktail of startling yet authentic historic facts blended with hard-core ruthless action-violence, family emotions glamour-centric music and dance. Already the fabulous seductive cabaret-dance in MATKA on the viral song sung by Neeti Mohan which goes ‘Le Le Raja’ beautifully picturised on iconic Nora Fatehi with the vintage vibes has gone viral. “.
Shares Dr. Vijender Reddy, Our movie MATKA promises a compelling realistic story set against the backdrop of the infamous ‘Matka’ gambling empire which rocked India’s socio-economy in late 1970's & early 1980s’. The film chronicles the rise of Vasu from the humble background of a laborer-worker who eventually becomes the mastermind of a nationwide gambling empire, Matka. As Vasu’s influence rapidly grows, he eventually collides with the top-powers of the Indian government, leading to a discussion confrontation that analyses the lines between morality, ambition, power, greed. We also have a cameo role of ‘late’ PM Hon’ble Indira Gandhi-jee played by a talented actress. All the props, costumes, overall ambience, the music and dance and vehicles will also have authentic ‘period’ nostalgic splendor. There is one vintage authentic car model which we have used in Matka which was used by a legendary ‘late’ political powerful leader who hailed from Gujarat.. The surprise highlight in Matka is the amazing performance of glam-girl Nora Fatehi, as actress—she shot with us for 35 days. Besides her banger-viral dance-song ‘Le Le Raja’, Nora also has a well-defined role as an Anglo-Indian actress-performer in Matka..Nora FatehiNora Fatehi
