Actor Chunky Pandey has been a part of the film industry for several years. Known for his comic roles, he has kept audiences laughing for decades. However, this time, he is stepping into a new character that brings a sense of fear and intensity to the screen.

For several years, actor Chunky Pandey has entertained audiences with his comedic timing. But now, in his new avatar, he is ready to bring terror to viewers through his portrayal of a ruthless don in the upcoming web series Griha Laxmi. In this series, Pandey plays a blind gangster, marking a fresh experiment in his acting career. He’s exploring a darker side of himself, something he has never done before on screen.

Though Chunky has been a part of the entertainment industry for over four decades, playing not only comedy roles but also romantic heroes, this time he is transforming his image as an actor and attempting something new and different.

A New Experience

Talking about this new challenge, Chunky Pandeysays playing a negative character was a completely new experience. He explains, "It was really refreshing for me because I have a little bit of a 'shaitaan' (devilish) side inside me. I think we all do. We just keep it quiet. I had never played a full-fledged don on screen before. The other villains I’ve played were always associated with bigger villains. They were fixers or sons of bad guys. This time, I am the main bad guy."

Finding the Role

Pandey believes that his success in reinventing himself over the years is due to actively seeking out good roles and chasing filmmakers who made films he wanted to be a part of. He says, "I’ve been lucky to get these roles, but I also went after them. I stayed around people who were making films like that, and when I found out they had a role I wanted to play, I chased them. I wasn’t afraid of doing just two scenes in a film because people usually remember two or three scenes. If you land one of them, you get that recall value. The audience needs to remember you because, one day, we will all be gone. Only our work will remain."

At 62, Pandey reflects on his long journey in the industry, which started in the 1980s. Having faced ups and downs along the way, he says, “I don’t regret anything in my life. I think we should enjoy the journey. The fun is in the journey—this rollercoaster ride of ups and downs.”
