'Superboys of Malegaon' Sets Global Release for Feb 28

The film Superboys of Malegaon tells the touching story of Nasir Sheikh, an amateur filmmaker from the small town of Malegaon in Maharashtra, and his group of friends. Directed by Reema Kagti, this film has already garnered significant international acclaim through its successful film festival run. From its grand premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2024 to screenings at the 68th BFI London Film Festival and the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival – where it earned a special mention in the Young Cineastes Award – the film has left an indelible mark. It was also showcased at the fourth Red Sea International Film Festival. After this successful festival journey, the film is now set for its global theatrical release on February 28, across the USA, UK, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, and India.

Pete Hammond of Deadline uniquely described the film, saying, “A wonderful coming-of-age story, a meeting of Cinema Paradiso and The Fabelmans, mixed with Breaking Away and Stand by Me.” Drawing similarities to some of cinema’s classics, Superboys of Malegaon has sparked the right kind of buzz in the international market. As The Wrap puts it, the film is “a crowd-pleasing attraction that delivers the most straightforward of stories.” A group of lovable misfits decides to put on a show.

Meanwhile, Variety noted, “At one point, the harsh reactions in the theater blend with audience responses, resulting in a rare form of emotional immersion from the community. Some films are so skilled at understanding why people still go to the movies.”
