The 25th edition of FICCI Frames 2025 in Mumbai saw a vibrant and witty exchange between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar. Their discussion covered a wide range of topics—from Nagpur’s unique way of eating oranges to strengthening the Marathi film industry, raising awareness about cybercrime, expanding Mumbai Film City, and even improving the footwear of Maharashtra Police. Akshay also sought the Chief Minister’s opinion on his upcoming thriller film “Haiwaan”, in which he plays a negative role.

How Fadnavis Eats Oranges

The 25th edition of FICCI Frames 2025 began on a light and humorous note. Akshay Kumar, known for his playful interview style, asked the Chief Minister a question that left the audience in splits. Recalling his famous “mango question” to the Prime Minister, Akshay said, “The first time, I had asked our Hon’ble Prime Minister how he eats mangoes. People made so much fun of me! But sir, I haven’t changed much. So today, since you are from Nagpur, known for its oranges, tell us—how do you eat your oranges? Do you peel them or juice them?”

Smiling, Fadnavis replied, “I love oranges! But let me tell you the desi Nagpur style. Don’t peel the orange—just cut it in half, sprinkle a little salt on top, and suck it like you would eat a mango. The tangy-sweet taste doubles the fun!” Akshay laughed and said, “That’s amazing! I’ll definitely try this method.”

‘Nayak’ Left a Deep Impression on Fadnavis

When Akshay asked, “Is there any film that left a lasting impact on you?” Fadnavis responded thoughtfully, “Films don’t influence me as a political leader, but as a human being. There are many that have touched me emotionally. But if we talk about politics, one film that influenced me deeply—and also created trouble for me—is ‘Nayak: The Real Hero’.

In that film, Anil Kapoor becomes Chief Minister for a day and does so much in 24 hours that wherever I go, people tell me, ‘Fadnavis ji, work like Nayak!’ I once told Anil Kapoor that by playing ‘Nayak,’ he turned us into ‘Nalayak’ (incompetent)! People started believing that the whole world can change in a single day. Still, the film set a strong benchmark.”

Fadnavis added that films keep his emotions and humanity alive: “In politics, where emotions often fade, movies help me think and feel like an ordinary person again.”

Expansion of Film City

At FICCI Frames 2025, Fadnavis praised Maharashtra’s legacy, calling it the true capital of entertainment. He said, “Maharashtra not only has a complete film ecosystem but also the vibrancy and people who have lived cinema. These are the qualities I want to present before global studios.
We had drawn up plans to develop Mumbai Film City and its ecosystem further, and I had detailed discussions with the film fraternity. Although implementation faced challenges, I am determined to transform it into a world-class environment.”

On Cybercrime Awareness

Akshay and the Chief Minister also discussed the serious issue of cybercrime. Fadnavis said,“I believe more films should be made on cybercrime. Street crime has often been portrayed in films, but cybercrime has penetrated our systems and created major challenges. Our film heroes should raise their voices against this growing threat.

Our police force is evolving, too. With the rise in deepfakes, digital frauds, extortion, and financial scams, awareness is critical. The film industry can play a huge role in portraying this effectively.”

Fadnavis’s Take on Akshay’s Film ‘Haiwaan’

During the session, Akshay asked for the Chief Minister’s advice about his upcoming film “Haiwaan.” He said, “I’m playing a negative character this time, and I was unsure if I should do it. The film’s name is ‘Haiwaan,’ and in the end, the villain loses—the monster is defeated.”

Fadnavis immediately supported him, saying, “Yes, you should definitely do it. An artist of your calibre must explore every kind of role. After all, what defines creativity? Even when the villain loses, his role often leaves a deeper impact than the hero’s. But as a hero, you must keep doing more films too.”
Akshay added, “I’ve mostly played heroic roles, but I wanted to try something different this time. That’s why I’m doing ‘Haiwaan’.” Reportedly, Haiwaan is a thriller in which Akshay Kumar will reunite with Saif Ali Khan after 17 years.

A Request for Lighter Police Shoes

Akshay also made a lighthearted yet practical request to the Chief Minister—suggesting improvements in the heavy shoes worn by Maharashtra Police. Fadnavis assured him that the issue would be looked into.

The session concluded with some casual questions on Mumbai Metro and politics, which the Chief Minister answered with his trademark ease and wit.
