Happy Birthday AMIT KHANNA : THE ONE MAN BRIGADE

He is built small, but has been destined for big things. He started small in a distributor’s office in Delhi, when the great discoverer, Dev Anand found him, his name was Amit Khanna. He was bright, dynamic, dedicated and brimming with ideas , just  the kind of a young man Dev Anand liked and wanted to work for Navketan , his company .

Amit cane to Bombay (it was not Mumbai then). Dev straight away saddled him with responsibilities which were challenges for him and Amit was the kind of man who loved challenges. He knew how things could be done, how anything and everything was possible for man as long as he had the will to carry on without any problems, without any fear, without giving up, armed with the power of the will that refuses to give man the permission to surrender or to give up.

Dev was happy with his discovery. He knew his amazing ability to get things done and saw to it that whatever was wanted was done. It took Amit very little time to gain the complete confidence of his evergreen “boss” and was Dev’s “Man Fiday’ , a man who never said no , a man for all reasons, all seasons and the man who could test himself in the most trying times and circumstances .

Amit was inspired by Dev to forget whatever has happened and go on and on without giving the past any thought, the perfect philosophy followed by Dev (har fiqr ko dhuven mein udaata chala gaya ). Amit kept fighting all the best fights to solve every problem Dev faced and grow in stature till he reached a stage when Dev took him very seriously and left many of his crucial decisions to him because Dev knew he was enlightened, enthusiastic and forever in a state of energetic excitement.

And when Amit wanted to fly , to become something , to make a name for himself , stand on his own feet like they say in India , Dev was the last man to stop him , he blessed him and left him to fly , to go forward   , to grow .

And Amit kept growing , he was a poet , he wrote songs for some of Dev’s own films and then many other films , he took one more step forward and took on the challenge to be a producer made ‘Man Pasand with Dev and his discovery , Tina Munim who he never knew was one day going to play a very important part in his growth , Amit also directed some films which for some reasons have still not been released, the reasons difficult to fathom , like someone said even God doesn’t know where those films have gone , in which corner they have been left to rust .

He was soon a very important young leader of the industry which needed a dynamic leader like him who kept changing with the times and made the industry realize the mistakes it made and offered his advice to anyone who wanted it.
He was the brain behind the launching of some big companies making films and TV serials and reached a position of eminence as the director of Reliance Big Entertainment and is taking the new company from success to more success till he realized that he had to make a place of his own and has decided to build a new future for himself even at this stage of his life. He is the man who inspired Big Films to back the MAMI festival which has spread its wing and is set to fly high all because of the support of Tina Munim, his one-time heroine who is one of the major minds behind every decision taken at Reliance, the group headed by her husband, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani , he is on the move wherever the festival is on because he is determined to make a big success of this festival . 

And if you think he has reached a stage when he should take a few steps backwards, you are wrong, this man knows no stopping like the man who first brought him to Bombay, the one and only Dev and now it seems like every “anth” (end) is only a new beginning for Amit and the journey has just begun because he has miles to go and dreams and ideas to bring alive…
