The comedy wars on weekends are not able to entertain the audience. There was a time when comedy nights, laughter challenges and many such comedy shows dominated the weekends where on one hand comedy classes were held and on the other mimicry and jokes were heard. While shows like Saas-Bahu were entertainment for women on the five days of the week, such funny shows were entertainment for the entire family on weekends. Families used to sit together and enjoy these shows but in the era of social media, where people have become used to 30 to 60-second reels, such shows are failing to entertain the audience.

Controversies in Small-Screen Comedy Shows: Impact on Entertainment

Kapil Sharma and Krushna Abhishek 'Aren't Friends.' They Are 'Rivals'

Small-screen comedy shows have disappeared somewhere in the world of reels. There are many such comedy shows which became a part of controversy more than making people laugh. Many big shows like Krishna Abhishek's 'Comedy Nights Bachao' to Akshay Kumar's 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge' have become a part of controversy. Recently one more name has been added to it, and that is Sony TV's show 'Madness Machayenge India Ko Hasayenge'. The show was neither successful in creating madness among the audience nor could it make India laugh. One act in the show angered Karan Johar, that's a different matter.

Writers and comedians associated with comedy also believe that the reels that make people laugh in a few minutes on social media are more famous than any popular TV show and perhaps this is the reason that among so many shows, there is only one show of Kapil Sharma which was successful on TV, but despite this, Kapil's show shifted to OTT because there is the freedom to show only a limited kind of content on TV.

Harsh Limbachiya, who has been a writer in the field of comedy for years, also believes that in today's time, people are doing four times better comedy on social media than on TV. And this is the reason that people's exposure to comedy has increased and now people understand comedy. And perhaps this is the reason why it is not easy to do comedy on TV throughout the year. Perhaps this is the reason why Kapil Sharma's show moved from TV to Netflix. Harsh also said that this is the reason why he and his wife Bharti Singh have come to YouTube where they can create content according to their wish because family shows run on TV which also have some limitations.

Comedian Snehil i.e. BC Aunty of 'Madness Machayenge India Ko Hasayenge' believes that in today's digital era, people have become accustomed to watching quick reels, in such a situation where so much variety of entertainment content is available everywhere, it is not easy to make people laugh for an hour by doing comedy on TV.
