In the world of music, some voices don’t just reach the ears but touch the soul. One such devotee of melodies is the artist we’re speaking to today. Whether it's bhajans, Sufi music, or Bollywood songs, this voice always touches the heart. Recently, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri award. In a heartfelt conversation with Maya Puri Magazine, she not only spoke candidly about music, social issues, and women empowerment but also gave a message to today's youth and artists to follow the true path. Here are some excerpts from that conversation.

You recently received the Padma Shri award. What was your first reaction?
This honor is not mine. I dedicate it to the young heroes of Pahalgam who have recently struggled. This is my heartfelt tribute to them. I salute their courage.
These days, everyone is trying to become an artist on social media. Do you think this is promoting talent or has it just become a trend?
People today don’t like the truth. I have no fear—I always speak the truth. Social media wants drama and spice. But if a child is not singing well, I will clearly say it’s wrong. And if someone is singing beautifully, I’ll lift them with honor.
There's a lot of use of autotune and AI in music today. Has it affected the soul of music?
It hasn’t just affected it—the soul has been destroyed. Now anyone can sing because machines fix everything. Where is real singing—the kind that came from the soul, from years of discipline? It’s disappearing.
The younger generation wants quick success. What, in your view, is the difference between success and contentment?
Success comes from destiny, but contentment comes from the soul. When I feel that the divine is listening to my song, that’s true fulfillment. Money and fame are nothing compared to that.
What is the role of an artist in society?
An artist should earn their place in society with balance and sensitivity. They should be someone who stands with people in their joy and sorrow. That is why we become artists.

What changes have you seen for women in the industry?
It depends on how one presents themselves. If a woman has discipline, hard work, and confidence, she can achieve anything. But she must grow while staying within her values.
What would you like to say about the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam?
First, I offer my deepest condolences to the families affected by this attack. I speak about them with my husband every day—I ask, why did this happen? It was tragic. He tells me I am too sensitive and take these things to heart. When I was receiving the award, my mind was still caught in those thoughts.

Lastly, what message would you like to give to your admirers?
I just hope your love remains. When the time comes, my melodies will once again echo. My goal is always to reach your heart through my music.
Jaspreet Narula is not just a singer, but a true human being—completely dedicated to society, music, and truth. There is truth in her words and soul in her melodies.
