Renowned for his spiritual and Sufi-style songs in Bollywood, Padma Shri awardee singer Kailash Kher celebrated his 53rd birthday on the grand stage of the 9th edition of his initiative 'Nayi Udaan' on Monday, July 7.

Kailash Kher, who has carved a niche in Bollywood with his unique spiritual and soulful voice, marked both his birthday and the ninth anniversary of ‘Nayi Udaan’ with a vibrant celebration. Over the years, Kher has sung more than 2,000 songs in 21 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and many more.

This event was more than just a musical evening—it was a tribute to India’s rich guru-shishya (mentor-disciple) tradition, spiritual heritage, and cultural legacy. The program provided a platform for over 200 emerging musical talents from across the country, and also witnessed the presence and blessings of legendary personalities like Anup Jalota and Prasoon Joshi, making the occasion truly unforgettable.

Praising Kailash Kher on the occasion, Anup Jalota shared, “Kailash Kher has grown up in a deeply spiritual environment. I have known him since he first arrived in Mumbai. I once jokingly told him to call himself ‘Nirma’ because he would wash away everything—and indeed, today he has won everyone's hearts. He carries the aura of a sage and still lives a life of spiritual discipline.”
He added,“We share some similarities, such as our deep love for spiritual music—and yes, even our height is quite similar!”

Speaking on the occasion, Kailash Kher remarked, “The 9th year holds sacred meaning—9 planets, 9 directions. Music is a divine blessing. This initiative is a noble deed, where seniors guide juniors. In today’s world, where artificiality often overshadows authenticity, music remains true and meaningful.”
He continued, “This year, 200 new talents have been selected through Nayi Udaan. Among them, the stories of 10–12 artists are deeply moving. This journey is steadily progressing, and the guru-shishya tradition remains its foundation—it will live on forever.”

Appreciating Anup Jalota, Kher added, “Anup ji has served the world of music for many years while living in Mumbai. I’m truly happy to be sharing this stage with him.”
He concluded by extending warm wishes to all Indians on the arrival of the Shravan month and sang a devotional song in honor of Lord Shiva.

Padma Awardee Prasoon Joshi said,

“In the Ramayana, the role of Jamvant is extremely significant—he reminds Hanuman of his forgotten powers. Similarly, today’s youth must also be reminded of their voice and strength, which can echo across the world. What Kailash ji is doing is not easy, but it is noble and very much needed in today’s time.”
To this, Kailash Kher responded with heartfelt words: “Prasoon ji is the moon, and I am the star that shines in his light.”

The event concluded with music, gratitude, and blessings, as Kailash Kher’s 53rd birthday was celebrated with honor, humility, and a resounding message of nurturing young talent through music and tradition.
