The moment you hear the name Kapil Sharma, a whole world of entertainment, fun, and humor comes to mind. A Journey That Began in Amritsar

Born on April 2, 1981, in Amritsar, Kapil Sharma is today regarded as the biggest face on Indian television. He has given Hindi audiences the kind of laughter that was deeply missed for years. Proving the saying “Laughter is the Best Medicine,” Kapil turned The Kapil Sharma Show into a weekend ritual—something viewers simply can’t imagine missing.

Kapil completed his schooling at Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School in Amritsar. It was here that he first stepped onto the stage, and it became clear that this boy was no ordinary talent. From acting to singing at school functions, Kapil shone every time he faced an audience.

During his college years at Hindu College, he participated in several youth festivals and won awards. Despite financial hardships, he never let his talent take a back seat. His strong association with Jalandhar’s APJ College of Fine Arts followed, where he not only performed theatre but also trained children to earn some money and support his family.

Early Jobs at a Young Age — From PCO to Textile Mill

Uncomfortable with asking for money, Kapil started working in his teenage years. First, he worked at a PCO for ₹500 a month, and after Class 10, he took up a job at a textile mill earning ₹900 per month. He rarely brought the money home—sometimes buying a music system, sometimes gifts for his mother.

Although Kapil was offered a job in the police department, he refused, and his elder brother joined in his father’s place.

Kapil initially dreamt of becoming a singer, but destiny led him to theatre. His talent became so evident that a college in Amritsar offered him free admission on the condition that he would represent the college at the state level in acting. From here, his journey truly began to gain momentum.

At the Delhi auditions, he not only got selected but went on to become the winner of Season 3.

The prize money of ₹10 lakh was used to fund his sister’s wedding. After this success, Kapil became part of shows like Chhote Miyan, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and Comedy Circus, all of which further boosted his popularity.
