"Celebrating The Legends", to which his show was dedicated were Kishore Kumar, R.D. Burman, and Rajesh Khanna besides a few other acclaimed veteran famous composers-singers as well... The show was held under Daboo’s famous MWM music-label last Thursday night at the Mukkti Cultural Hub auditorium. While the prime singer was versatile Daboo himself who excelled in singing evergreen timeless retro-songs for which he won an encore (‘once more’) response. The show began with sentimental Daboo paying vocal homage to his legendary composer father Sardar Malik when he sang two evergreen retro-compositions Saranga Teri Yaad Mein and Haan Deewana Hoon Main to thundering applause. Besides singing top chartbuster retro-songs of the ‘magical RDB-KK-RK’ combo, ( like ‘Humey Tumsey Pyar Kitna’ and Agar Tum Na Hote) Daboo also sprung several surprises from the stage when he sang a Western foot-tapping beats Kishore-da song ‘Ek Hasina Thhi’ Laxmi-Pyare composition from ‘Karz’ and the soulful song which goes ‘Jeevan Sey Bhari from ‘Safar’ composed by Kalyanji Anandji. Further surprises were when singers who have collaborated with MWM like popular Gul Saxena sang a soothing duet (Tere Bina Zindagi) with Daboo from the movie Aandhi. While talented singer-composer-anchor Chhavi Sahai who sang her own amazing composed song Dua Khuda Sey B. Then there was handsome lead actor-and trained classical singer Vikas Bhalla who beautifully sang the (evergreen Kishore-da solo) meaningful, soulful Aa Chalke Tujhe, which won the hearts of the applauding audience. Daboo Malik Speaking to me exclusively, the dynamic Daboo ( composer-singer Anu Malik's younger brother) who has acted in a striking cameo role in the SRK hit movie ‘Baazigar’) shares, “The Legends to which my unique show was dedicated were Kishore-Da, Pancham-Da (RDB) and Rajesh (‘Kakaji’) Khanna, the trio of these great artistes is like a lifeline for me. All my Shows are basically rooted and based on the music of Pancham Da and the fascination of Kishore Das's voice and the performance of Rajesh Khanna,. So a little bit of each touches my soul, and I perform my shows keeping that in mind. But since I cover celebrating the legends, I do take the songs of some of the other greats, including Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Sachin-da, Madan Mohan, and various other famous composers, whose music has influenced me, and the great melodies of Indian cinema, The date August is the birthday of my favorite singer. We are all loyal devotees of versatile Kishore Kumar because his voice, his dynamics, his performing voice was sheer magic, which ruled the ‘70s and took it to its pinnacle and he is immortal.” Daboo Malik Continued Daboo, “My live performance tribute show on August 1st, I had humbly dedicated to Kishore Da. Being the core singer, whose songs I sang, As a composer, also singing songs of Rafi Sahab, Mukesh ji and other legendary composers also made my live event, a kind of tribute musical bouquet of great timeless retro-melodies. The current musical season was very memorable since July 22nd was connected to Mukesh-ji, August 04th is connected to Kishore-Da and July 31st was the sad death anniversary of Rafi Sahab. And somehow, I have touched-base with each and every song performed by these great singers. And I really feel such immense satisfaction when I'm able to get the audience live applause reactions Because we are not even a patch on these great singers, we cannot even ever dream of singing to perfection, such great melodies and such great singing, but their memories, their music is eternal, and that is what keeps us going, and we keep on performing these songs. I consider myself lucky that I'm able to carry the legacy of such stalwarts towards the stage—which is my passion. The Malik Family is keeping the flag of ( my composer father) Sardar Malik alive through their melodies and their compositions. Also, I feel blessed to have the opportunities to sing on this stage, which are also the retro classics, which are also the current heart-throb hits of my family and my event takes a unique dimension, “ shared Daboo Malik whose Gen-Now musical rock-star sons Armaan Malik and Amaal Malik were both present in the audience to loudly cheer and clap during their dad’s dynamic performances.
