Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa, the second film in Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan universe, released recently and stars Kajol, Ronit Roy, and Indraneil Sengupta. Kajol recently appeared in IMDb’s original series ‘Behind The Scenes’ where she revealed what made her say yes to the film, her experience shooting for a horror film, and her rituals before beginning new projects.

Revealing if she is superstitious, Kajol said,

“I don’t know whether I am superstitious, but yes, I have my own little rituals that I follow. I always take God's name before leaving the house. If I am starting a film or project of any sort, I run it by my mother (Tanuja) and touch her feet and get her blessings before I start anything. Ideally, I would love for her to be there on the first day of whatever I shoot.”

With Ajay Devgn producing, Kajol revealed fun dynamics that played out on set. She said, “There were no fights, but a few disagreements, which are pretty common between couples. Some were personal, some were not, but both ways, we both came out on top.”

Sharing what made her say yes to Maa, Kajol said, “I am not a horror fan. I’m on the opposite spectrum of a fan, really, as far as horror is concerned. As for why I stayed away from the horror genre, earlier, when I got a few scripts, the emphasis was always on the genre more than the script and that always bothered me. I wanted a script that had a lot happening in it, character development or situational lines, and everything, and I never found that. Maa started out as a concept of course from one of my most favourite stories, which is Kaali Maa and Rakta Beej. I’m a mythology buff. This is a mytho-horror being attempted for the first time. There are a lot of firsts in it. It’s my first time in horror. It’s the first time mythology is used in horror.”

Kajol Credits Ajay Devgn for 'Maa' as Premium Horror Work

Mentioning the most challenging aspect about shooting a horror film, Kajol revealed, “The Green Screen and the VFX. I think the pitch of a horror film is what the audience is feeling or what you want the audience to feel. As an actor, I would love for it to be a little more cooler, a little more subdued maybe. For that pitch, for that particular genre, for the audiences, you require pushing it a little extra, to get the kind of effect that you want, to get the level that you want. That’s the challenging part about it, and of course, the action. Nobody knows how much of an action there is in a horror film besides the people who are acting in it.”
