Malaika Arora recently spoke openly about her divorce and the difficult time she went through after it due to the judgmental attitude of a section of people. She shared that when she decided to separate from Arbaaz Khan in 2016–17, people made it more difficult for her by backbiting and gossiping. Not only the public, but even her own friends and some extended family questioned her decision. Every step she took was watched minutely, discussed, dissected, and judged.

Talking about that phase, Malaika said it was a very emotional and painful time for her. People were continuously commenting and pointing fingers at her life. They were guessing things and criticizing her choices. It was horrible. She felt that her personal life had become a topic for everyone to debate.
In a clear and honest conversation with India Today, Malaika had said that while her divorce formalities were going on, she faced many questions. These questions did not come only from the media or strangers, but also from people known and close to her. She was often asked things like, “Why did you do this?”, “What were you thinking?”, and “Why are you trying to be happy so soon?”

Malaika explained that in those days, divorce was not easily accepted by society, especially when it involved a woman. Women who change their relationships are often called ‘selfish’, ‘wrong’, or ‘foolish’.
She said that many people find it hard to understand why someone would take such a big step just to be happy.

For Malaika, the hardest part was seeing the double standards of people. She said that when a man ends a relationship or moves on, people do not question him much. But when a woman does the same thing, she faces criticism from every direction. This difference in thinking was very clearly visible to her.
Malaika says she married Arbaaz Khan at 25
Malaika also spoke about getting married at a very young age. She said she was only 25 when she got married to Arbaaz Khan, and it was her first serious relationship.
Looking back, she feels that if she had taken some more time to understand herself and her life, things might have been different. Today, she would advise her younger self to first know who you are before making big decisions like marriage.

She also made it clear that she still believes in the faith of marriage. However, her idea of marriage has now changed a little . She no longer sees it as a pressure or a rule made by the society. For her, marriage should be a loving and respectful relationship. If such a relationship comes into her life again, she will welcome it. If not, she is happy and satisfied with herself.
After the divorce, Malaika and Arbaaz have handled co-parenting their son Arhaan in a mature way. It was not easy, but they worked together to make sure their son was happy and secure.
Their journey shows that respect and understanding can exist even after a relationship ends, especially when a child is involved.
