Nushrratt Bharuccha on Shubhankar Mishra’s Podcast: Bollywood actress Nushrratt Bharuccha, who recently impressed audiences with her powerful performance in Chhorii 2, appeared on journalist and YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast for a candid conversation. In this special chat, Nushrratt didn’t just speak openly about her professional journey, but also revealed some deeply personal aspects of her life that her fans may not have known before. Her heartfelt insights into her struggles, successes, and dedication to cinema made this podcast an emotional and inspiring experience.
Taking Responsibility at a Young Age
Nushrratt shared that she is the only child of her parents. During a particularly difficult phase in her father’s business, she felt a strong urge to support him. “Seeing my father go through that, I became responsible almost overnight,” she said. “I started taking up small jobs to help out.”
How She Landed Love Sex Aur Dhokha
Talking about her breakthrough in Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), directed by Dibakar Banerjee, Nushrratt revealed that she was initially rejected during the auditions. The role went to another actress, but just ten days before the shoot, the actress dropped out — and the role came to Nushrratt.
Hiding Her Work From Her Parents
In a surprising moment of vulnerability, Nushrratt shared that she didn’t tell her parents she was shooting for the film. “There was a kissing scene in the film, and I was terrified of how my family would react,” she admitted. “I kept it a secret to avoid getting scolded. But when the film released, the scene didn’t clearly show anyone’s face — so I got away with it.”
On Nepotism and Missed Opportunities
Despite a string of successful films to her name, Nushrratt spoke openly about the pain of not receiving enough substantial roles in the industry. She acknowledged the existence of nepotism in Bollywood and pointed out the clear advantage that star kids have.
“They definitely have a benefit,” she said. “They know people in the industry — and if they don’t, their parents do. They get access to places I can’t reach. They can knock on doors I don’t even know exist. If I want to meet a director, who’s going to give me his number? Where do I even begin?”
Although she refrained from calling them ‘nepo kids’ outright, she did mention that their journey is different. “They have their own struggles, sure — but they get paths I don’t. Maybe that’s what’s made my journey the hardest. That’s why I value the people who choose to work with me — I keep them close like family.”
She recalled a moment when she wanted to approach a director for work but couldn’t find any contact information. “I didn’t know whom to call, where to go. Then one day, I messaged Kabir Khan, and to my surprise, he responded and agreed to meet. That one reply made my whole month. For outsiders, just getting a meeting or a number is a big deal.”
Work Front
Nushrratt Bharuccha has carved a niche for herself in the industry with a wide range of offbeat and commercial films. Her filmography includes hits like Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011), Akaash Vani (2013), Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015), Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018), Dream Girl (2019), Chhalaang (2020), Ajeeb Daastaans (2021), Chhorii (2021), Hurdang (2022), Ram Setu (2022), Janhit Mein Jaari (2022), Akelli (2023), Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023), and her latest, Chhorii 2 (2025).
