Just as cinema is a mirror of society, the relationship between films and patriotism is also very old. Few people would know that many years before independence, when India's first talking film 'Alam Ara' was released, it had a patriotic story. The songs of the film 'Alam Ara' released in 1931 spread the feeling of patriotism.
During the freedom struggle, Hindi films played an important role in promoting the spirit of patriotism. One of these major films was 'Shaheed' (1948). 'Shaheed' was based on the biography of Bhagat Singh. The feeling of patriotism was also expressed in the songs of this film.
When the country became independent, even after independence, Hindi films kept the torch burning to keep the spirit of patriotism alive. One of the prominent films among these was 'Mother India' (1957), which was based on the story of a mother who fights for her country. The feeling of patriotism was expressed in the songs of this film- 'Dharti Mata Jeevan Bhar Hum Tere Gun Gaaye...'
Films have played an important role from time to time in promoting the feeling of patriotism. One such film of the new era is- 'Rang De Basanti' (2006), which is based on the story of a group that fights for the country. The feeling of patriotism is expressed in the songs of this film.
Patriotic songs
Whenever it comes to nationalism in Hindi films, the song of 'Vande Mataram' is used as a dialogue. This line is written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and is also the national song of our country.
The passionate song of the film 'Border' "Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walon" is written by Javed Akhtar. This is also a very popular line which is often heard playing on 26th January.
"Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawanon Ka" is written by Sahir Ludhianvi for the film 'Naya Daur'.
"Ae Watan..." song was written by L. Kumar for the film Ae Watan.
"Aisa Desh Hai Mera" is a line from the film 'Veer Zara' which is written by Javed Akhtar. All these songs are full of nationalism and every Indian is filled with the feeling of patriotism when they are heard playing on radio, TV and Republic Day parades on Independence Day and Republic Day.
