Online scams, forgery and fraud are not unique to a country like India. Over and over again, different ways of conducting fraudulent activities may have changed or evolved but this wrongdoing never diminished.

Although police and cyber cells always do their best to keep control, somehow or the other, these scammers find a way to dodge law and order. Not long ago, a web show called 'Video Cam Scam' released on EPIC channel, created a lot of buzz and talk about the impact of online scams.

It even trended on platforms like Twitter for quite some time. However, do any of you know why producer Pawan Malu was really inspired to make this show, as he managed to look at it successfully from a psychological point of view?

Navigating Social Media Scams: Insights from Producer Pawan Malu

While everyone talks about such scams with caution and also points out that no one should fall for it, not everyone succeeds in tracing the original case successfully. However, producer Pawan Malu feels that often people's feeling of being emotionally alone and finding someone to talk to as a partner on social media is the biggest reason why people fall into the trap.

When asked to elaborate further, he said, “What does one do when one is emotionally lonely? What does he or she do when people close to him or her are not giving them enough time? He or she wants to share something with someone but no one wants to listen. In such cases, they try to find someone who can hear them, comfort them, give them a shoulder to cry on, or give them some time to speak his or her heart out.

The person needs someone who doesn't judge him/her. This is the point where the person is completely helpless, weak and desperate. I came across some such incidents and then I did more research on them to reach a new scam.

Online Exploitation: The Video Cam Scam

Incidents were such that when these loneliness victims were upset, they used to talk to strangers men or women on fraud apps. Then these women/men entice them and undress them and then record their video (like screen recording). Then they start blackmailing them. When we were researching these apps, we found more than 50-60 apps that actually existed. A lot of people started falling into this trap, that's when I thought a show like 'Video Cam Scam' should be made. Every day, the number of victims is increasing and it is important to address this issue.“

Congratulations to Pawan Malu for being truly a visionary and doing something different like spreading awareness' Video Cam Scam' has already received a lot of critical acclaim and we wouldn't be surprised if it gets even more.
