REKHA--Fitness–icon, style-model and excellent dancer-singer ! By Chaitanya Padukone

Versatile actress, agile dancer and evergreen fitness-icon Rekha whom I know since 1983 and spoke to her when she released her ‘Mind and Body Temple’ (1983) fitness videos and when she worked as the lead in ‘Agar Tum Na Hote’ (1983) movie opposite Rajesh Khanna and Raj Babbar. The style-icon Rekha has this child-like exuberant, naughty (‘masti-khor’), and she has a frank outspoken nature and can sometimes be funny-and also serious, super-intelligent whenever she wishes to.

Not many may be aware, that the multi-talented husky-voiced Rekha is a good singer, is amazing at perfectly reciting Urdu sher-shaayri and has a wonderful sense of melody and rhythm. Rekha has sang playback songs-duets. Impressed by her singing potential and love for vocal music, genius composer R D Burman recorded a proper melodious duet with Rekha and eminent playback singer Shailendra Singh for movie ‘Agar Tum Na Hote’  which has the mukhdaa ‘Kal Sunday Ki Chutti Hai’. During my conversation, Rekha mentioned to me that she loves humming and singing and among her favorite female playback singers are Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Geeta Dutt and she is a huge ardent fan of most legendary actresses, especially Meena Kumari, Madhubala and Waheeda Rehman!
