The very sad news of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s death has shocked everyone in our country including Bollywood stars. Most of them posted their condolences on social networks and admitted that the former Prime Minister did really improve the Indian economy. As the world was preparing to usher in the New Year 2025, the death of Dr. Singh overshadowed the celebrations.

The liberalization of the economy of India is credited to a two-time former Prime Minister Dr. Singh.

He was appreciated for his excellent leadership and for working for the people without too much frills. He was the Prime Minister when he made some of the major policy shifts that shaped India into what it is today; He was an economic giant.  His death brings the end of an era in the history of India. Some of the Bollywood celebrities who are active on social and political issues also came to pay their tribute to Dr. Singh and expressed their gratitude to him.

Dr. Manmohan Singh breathed his last on Thursday night at the age of 92 at AIIMS hospital Delhi. He was having age related issues for some time now. He was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed and fainted at his residence in the morning, but the doctors could not save him.

The government has announced seven days of mourning in his honour and his funeral will be conducted with all the state ceremonial.

Many Bollywood stars paid emotional tribute to him:

Sunny Deol tweeted, " I am deeply saddened by his demise. Manmohan Singh was a visionary leader who played an important role in shaping the economic liberalization of India. His intelligence, integrity and contribution to the development of the nation will always be remembered.”

Comedy king Kapil Sharma said, “India has lost one of its finest leaders today. Dr. Manmohan 'The architect of India's economic reforms and an icon of integrity and humility, Manmohan Singh leaves behind a vast legacy of progress and hope.'

Nimrat Kaur wrote “A scholar-statesman the real architect of India's economic reforms his unmatched intelligence and humility have left an indelible mark on the fabric of our nation. May your soul rest in peace, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Famous actor Harbhajan Singh also paid tribute and said that the country has lost a "gem".


These Bollywood celebrities focused on Dr. Singh’s efforts in the growth of India’s economy, his honesty and his importance for the nation.

There was a previous personal interaction in 2019 when Kapil Sharma had met Manmohan Singh and Kapil had thanked the former PM profusely for the “excellent hospitality” and they shared their roots from Amritsar.

Madhuri Dixit also reposted a picture of Manmohan Singh on her Instagram Stories and wrote alongside, “Dr. Manmohan Singh’s journey and service to the nation are epitome of wisdom and grace.” His leadership is a testimony that it does not take loud voices to bring change or to make a difference. An incredible leader and an even more incredible person. My sincere condolences to his family and to all the many people who knew him and loved him. ”Om Shanti.”

Swara Bhasker also posted a photo of X of Manmohan Singh giving an award to Swara, who is wearing a white saree. “The passing of #ManmohanSingh ji who, in retrospect, was the Prime Minister of India during India’s ‘actual’ ‘Acchey Din’ – when India was ‘more’ democratic, when Indians were ‘less’ afraid of ‘intolerance’ and when the Indian public discourse was ‘less’ vulgar. Farewell Dr. Singh. You contributed to India more than you were given credit for. (blue heart and folded hands emojis) #RIP Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji,”

Sanjay Dutt also expressed his grief. His contributions to India will never be forgotten Riteish Deshmukh commented about Singh’s passing, ‘Today we have lost one of India’s finest Prime Ministers. The man behind India’s economic miracle. He was the epitome of the dignified and humble. We will always be grateful for him. May his soul be given eternal rest. Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of our former PM, Shri Manmohan Singh ji.” A great leader, an economist & above all a true son of the nation, he serves as an example of honesty, knowledge & patriotism. May his soul rest in peace."

Tamil actor-director Kamal Haasan shared a photo of Manmohan Singh on his social media account and said that India lost a great leader and scholar. He mentioned that Dr. Manmohan Singh's passing marks the end of an important era in Indian politics. Kamal Haasan praised Dr. Singh for his economic and social policies that helped millions of people and made India stronger. He also mentioned that Dr. Singh focused on helping the most vulnerable people in society. Kamal Haasan expressed his condolences to Dr. Singh's family and to the nation for losing such a remarkable leader.
Madhuri Dixit Nene also mourns the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh and offered her condolences to the family of the deceased.
