In 2021, Subhash Kapoor launched "Maharani," a fictional web series inspired by Bihar politics. Streamed on Sony Liv, the series was a blockbuster and was well-received. Its main character, Rani Bharti, won the hearts of the audience. Viewers were captivated by the journey of how Rani, a simple woman who simply cooked the kitchen and watered the cows and buffaloes, became the Chief Minister of Bihar overnight, and then became entangled in the intricacies of politics. Following this, the second season was also well-received. Then came the third, but the third season didn't quite live up to the hype. Now, the fourth season of the same "Maharani" web series, "Maharani 4," is streaming on Sony Liv starting November 7th. Rani Bharti moves beyond Bihar and enters national politics. Unfortunately, this time, the writer and director have completely lost their grip. Puneet Prakash's direction lacks the edge to make the audience want to watch the series or Rani Bharti. This time, the series is nothing more than a shallow attempt to save the family. The political maneuvering lacks the grip that captivates the audience. (Maharani Season 4 web series review)

Story:
At the beginning of the web series "Maharani 4," the story centers on Prime Minister Sudhakar Shrinivas Joshi in Delhi. West Bengal Chief Minister Manek Sen withdraws support from his government. To save his government, the Prime Minister now needs the support of Bihar Chief Minister Rani Bharti's party. He sends his message to Rani Bharti. However, Bihar Chief Minister Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi) announces a contest against Prime Minister Sudhakar Shrinivas Joshi (Vipin Sharma). Anyone with a passing understanding of politics can easily understand that the series is a contest between former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi. While Rani then forms various alliances to defeat the Prime Minister, Prime Minister Joshi also resorts to tactics ranging from withholding Bihar's funds to deploying investigative agencies to defeat Rani. To escape this pressure, Rani Bharti resigns as Chief Minister and appoints her daughter, Roshni Bharti, inadvertently fueling discontent within her party. After her daughter, Roshni Bharti (Shweta Basu Prasad), becomes Chief Minister, her real battle is with her own brother, Jai Prakash (Shardul Bhardwaj). Now, Rani is more concerned about her sons, Jai Prakash Bharti and Surya, and her daughter, Roshni Bharti, than the party. At the same time, she seems to be striving to form a new national alliance to challenge Prime Minister Joshi. The question now is who loses and who gains in this battle? At one point, Prime Minister Joshi says, "Politicians can't be trusted in this country." (Huma Qureshi Maharani 4 performance)

Review:
The story of "Maharani 4," which is over seven hours long, is stretched to the limit. It seems as if the writer and director had no story to offer; they simply stretched it out and served it to the audience. This time, the writing team failed to breathe new life into the already established characters or create an intense political drama. Even Rani Bharti's character lacks the depth or conflict that could captivate the audience. The entire series feels dull rather than interesting. (Maharani 4 Sony Liv release 2025)

Some of the dialogues are certainly well-written, such as, "Talk to your daughter before talking to your mother," or "Art and love cannot rule," or "This throne, this kingdom, is a life," etc.
Acting:
Vipin Sharma as Prime Minister Joshi, Shardul Bhardwaj as Jai Prakash Bhardwaj, Huma Qureshi as Rani Bharti, Shweta Basu Prasad as Roshni Bharti, Kani Kusruti as Kaveri, and Pramod Pathak as S.N. Mishra have all put their heart and soul into it. Rajeshwari Sachdev leaves her mark in the small role of Gayatri, but why Rajeshwari Sachdev is playing such a small role is beyond our understanding.
