On January 9, the trailer for the documentary series ‘The Roshans’ was launched in Mumbai. The event was graced by Hrithik Roshan, his father and filmmaker-director Rakesh Roshan, his uncle and music director Rajesh Roshan, and Shashi Ranjan. Shashi Ranjan co-produced and directed the series, while Rakesh Roshan is the producer.

The Roshan Family at the Event

At the event, Hrithik was seen wearing a dark grey t-shirt, paired with a light grey shirt and trousers. Rakesh Roshan chose a blue high-collared t-shirt, while his brother Rajesh Roshan complemented him in a red t-shirt. Let’s take a look at what the Roshan family had to say at the trailer launch event.

Hrithik Roshan

During the trailer launch, Hrithik Roshan expressed his gratitude to Netflix and Monica for giving him the opportunity. "When I watch this documentary, I realize how beautifully it has been made. It was directed with such care and attention. I never got the chance to meet my grandfather, but if I had, I would have loved to speak with him," Hrithik shared.

Hrithik also spoke about the inception of the documentary. He said, "My father told me he wanted to make a documentary, and I told him that I didn’t want any attention. Later, I realized that this documentary is not just about me, but about my entire family. I understood that it’s going to be an inspiring story, one that will inspire cinema students." He added that the passion for cinema inside him comes from his family.

The New Generation in the Family

During the event, Hrithik also shared that the new generation of the Roshan family, including his sons, is also interested in cinema and music. He mentioned that one of his sons composed music. Hrithik expressed a wish, saying, "If I ever had the chance, I would love to share my son's music compositions with my grandfather (composer Roshan Lal Nagrath)."

Talking about his uncle, Rajesh Roshan, Hrithik reminisced, "When I was 12 years old, my uncle used to sit me down and ask me to pick a melody from his compositions."

Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan, speaking at the event, mentioned that both he and his brother Rajesh have been inspired by their father’s legacy and have continued to carry it forward. He shared, "When I watched the first season of the documentary, I realized how much our family has contributed to cinema."

Rajesh Roshan

Music director Rajesh Roshan shared an interesting story about his initial reluctance to participate in the documentary. "Rakesh came to me with the idea of making a documentary on our family. I refused at first because I’m a private person. I didn’t want people to know about me. But he grabbed my collar and made me sit down, and then I realized that so many people were involved, so what difference would I make?" he laughed.

Rajesh Roshan also spoke about his father’s songs, which are still loved by people today. "I still enjoy listening to my father’s songs, rather than my own," he said, mentioning timeless tracks like "Jo Wada Kiya Wo Nibhana Padega" and "Manre Tu Kahe Na Beete."

Shashi Ranjan

Shashi Ranjan, the director of the series, explained how the idea for the documentary came about. "Rakesh used to take me to his farmhouse often, and one day while I was singing his father’s songs, he said, 'You sing my father’s songs a lot.' I told him I didn’t know that one day I would meet him, and I’ve been singing these songs since childhood. That’s when I thought we should do something for them. The idea of making a documentary series came up, and Rakesh agreed that the family should be involved. Slowly, others joined the project as well." He also added, "This series is not just the story of a few individuals. It’s the story of 75 years of cinema, and I’m proud to be a part of it."

Fun Photo Session

The event also featured a fun photo session. Rakesh Roshan identified a picture from the past, saying, "This is from when Rajesh and I were young, and our father won an award for the song 'Jo Wada Kiya Wo Nibhana Padega'." He then pointed to another picture and said, "This is from the film Koyla, where Hrithik was assisting me."

Hrithik also recognized a picture, saying, "This is from the film Khoon Bhari Maang." He went on to explain another picture with Rajinikanth, saying, "This is a picture of a foolish kid who had no idea how big an artist he was standing next to. This was during the filming of Bhagwan Dada." He shared a story from that time, saying, "Whenever I made a mistake or messed up a shot, my grandfather would cut the shot. Rajini sir would take all the blame so I wouldn’t feel bad. He would say, ‘Sorry, sorry, sorry! It’s my mistake.’"

Hrithik also recognized a photo from the song "Pyar Ki Kashti Mein" from Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, recalling, "I was given this guitar a day before the shoot. I was trying to play the song with my fingers to match the tune, but at first, I was hitting all the wrong notes. Eventually, I got it right. It’s been 25 years since this film, and it’s being re-released today, on my birthday, January 10."

It’s worth mentioning that Hrithik Roshan and Amisha Patel’s film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai is being re-released today, on Hrithik’s birthday, marking its 25th anniversary. Meanwhile, the Roshan family’s documentary series The Roshans will premiere on Netflix on January 17.
