Saiyami Kher who is known to be committed to her acting is leaving no stone unturned to look the part of a firefighter in her upcoming movie Agni which Rahul Dholakia is directing. For this role Kher had to prepare with the actual firefighters, she went to different parts of Mumbai fire stations more than once to understand the life, the physical and mental rigor, and the strategies they employ. Along with Pratik Gandhi and Divyendu Sharma, Agni will be one of the first films in Indian cinema based on a female firefighter, and Kher will lead a strong message of courage and commitment.

Kher shared her experience of working with Mumbai’s firefighters, saying,

“As an actor with every film I have done, I have gotten to learn a new skill. And I take immense pride in that. Whether it was horse riding for Mirzya, counting notes like a banker for choked, cricket for Ghoomer and now firefighting for Agni, preparing for this role was very inspiring and eye-opening. Meeting real firefighters helped me realize how much I did not know about firefighters in our city and all the hardships and dangers they have to go through. The number of female firefighters also was an eye-opener. The training sessions were very interesting. I got to know how to use the equipment and I did what the firefighters do in practice. It was inspiring to witness the efforts these men and women put in daily – risking their lives to do so many things. We desire to let people see what firefighters go through and how courageous one has to be, to be a firefighter. We wish and hope that we have done justice to this commitment.”
