In Bollywood, there are many actors who prefer staying away from the limelight, but the moment they appear on screen, they capture everyone’s attention. One such actor is Shankar Mishra, known for his calm nature and for staying out of the media buzz. His portfolio includes numerous films and television serials, in which he showcases a completely different look and character in each role.
Shankar Mishra's Versatile Roles in Film & TV Shows
Shankar Mishra has acted in several films, including Akele, The University, Bullet Raja, Ek Dastak, Karavaas, Kambakkht Life, and Hai Rabba Main Kya Karun, among others. He has also been a part of various TV shows like Vishnu Puran, Jai Santoshi Maa, Jai Ganesh, Mrs. Madhuri Dixit, Family Number One, and many more. In each of these, he takes on distinct roles, setting him apart from the usual TV actors who often repeat the same look in every show.
“I played the role of Bhutto's father, Shah Nawaz, in the show Game Changer Patel, directed by K.C. Bokadia, and also portrayed Guruji Krishna Rao Ambedkar in the serial Ek Mahanayak Dr. B.R. Ambedkar—the person who gave Dr. Ambedkar his surname,” shares Shankar. “Both these roles were completely different from my previous roles in other TV shows. I always try to appear different every time.”
Shankar Mishra had even auditioned for the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at one point, showcasing his versatility.
- How does he manage to get so much work without being typecast?
“They (the producers and directors) can answer that better,” he says with a smile. One of the key reasons for Shankar's success is that the directors he works with often offer him roles in their future projects. "My directors believe that I can easily transform into any role they envision. They feel my personality suits every kind of character. That’s why I am always able to present myself in different avatars on screen."
- Does he have a preference for certain kinds of roles?
“I feel comfortable with every role I’ve done so far—be it action, serious, or comedy. My face fits any type of role. Personally, I prefer working in family-oriented films,” he shares.
- Has he faced any bitter experiences in the industry?
When asked, Shankar acknowledges that there have been challenging moments but prefers not to talk about them. “I once tried my hand at producing, but it turned out to be a bad experience. I won’t name anyone, but I have learned from those experiences. Now, I prefer focusing on acting. I have some offers, but it’s too early to discuss them.”
