In a recent interview, Sharad opened up on various topics, including his new show, career, relationships, and how he stays away from controversies.

Sharad Kelkar Returns with Tum Se Tum Tak Show

Sharad Kelkar is a familiar face across television, films, and OTT platforms. After 8 long years, he is returning to the small screen with Tum Se Tum Tak, which airs every night at 8:30 PM on Zee TV. The show features actors like Vandana Pathak, Soma Rathod, and Niharika Chouksey alongside Sharad. In a recent interview, the actor spoke about his new show, his journey, relationships, and how he manages to keep himself away from controversies.

  • Many actors, once they shift to films or OTT, don’t return to television. But you’re making a comeback after 8 years. What are your thoughts?

I started doing films in 2011, but I continued with TV too. I did Agent Raghav and Koi Laut Ke Aaya alongside my film commitments. Later, as I got busier with movies, it became difficult to do television due to time constraints. Shows demand a lot of time, and then came COVID. I’ve always believed that the medium doesn’t matter—acting does. When this show came to me, I really liked the story, but initially, I refused due to scheduling issues. Later, things aligned, and I came on board.

  • Why did you say yes to Tum Se Tum Tak? Any specific reason?

I really liked the storyline. It’s a love story filled with suspense and thrill, which I found quite intriguing. In recent years, I’ve mostly played detectives or cops, so when I got the chance to do a love story, I was interested. Plus, the cast and makers are wonderful. Content may rise or fall, but the people you work with should be good. When you return home after shooting, it should feel fulfilling—that you worked with good people and did something meaningful.

  • Your show is based on an age-gap love story. But nowadays terms like situationship, ghosting, breadcrumbing are common in modern relationships. What do you think about these trends?

I've even heard of “pocketing” (laughs). I keep hearing about “situationship” but I still don’t really know what it is! I’m not in that league yet—my daughter is just 10-11 years old. Maybe I’ll ask Niharika (his co-star) about it.
Back in our time, we didn’t have fancy terms for things, but the experiences were the same. People dated multiple people even then. As for love—how can you define it in words? But for me, love means happiness.

  • You often take on roles that challenge you. Has there been a role that deeply impacted or changed you as a person?

Yes, one role did affect me negatively. I did a film called Operation Romeo. Sometimes, you play characters whose thoughts or mindset never crossed your own mind, and that can be disturbing. It was mentally exhausting for me to play that role.

  • Your journey began with stammering, and now your voice has become your signature. What would you like to say about that?

There’s a famous Shah Rukh Khan dialogue—“If you want something with all your heart, the universe conspires to bring it to you.” But for me, it wasn’t that poetic—it was more like “do or die.” I completed my studies, got a good job, but the acting bug bit me. I entered the industry at the age of 28—my “glory years” were already behind me. I got work, but was mocked because of my stammer.
I didn’t give up. Over time, that same voice became my strength. Today, when people talk about voices in the industry, mine is mentioned alongside Amitabh Bachchan sir—and that’s my biggest victory.

  • You’ve been married for 20 years, and you work in the entertainment industry—often seen as a place of temptations. Yet your name has never been linked with controversy or affairs. How do you manage that?

This perception of the entertainment industry being a “mud pit” is outdated. Honestly, today, it's one of the cleanest professions. Even if I go out for coffee with a friend, I have to think ten times about how the media or paparazzi might portray it.
This industry is no longer what it used to be. What people see in gossip columns or films is far from reality. In fact, if you look at medical, corporate, or other sectors, there’s far more relationship-related chaos there.
Life today is stressful—long working hours, pressure, imbalance... all of this leads to divorces, affairs, even crime. The only difference is that in our industry, the spotlight never turns off. So there’s simply no room for mistakes.

Sharad Kelkar Reveals Show Tum Se Tum Tak Challenges 'Conventional Norms'

  • You’re returning to TV after 8 years. What are your expectations from Tum Se Tum Tak?

For me, the process matters more than the result. No matter what the medium—TV, film, or OTT—I give my 100%. I don’t work thinking about the platform. I work with a clean heart, with integrity.

Sharad Kelkar began his career on television and went on to impress audiences with his performances in films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Adipurush, Shri, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, Bhoomi, Bhediya, Baadshaho, and Mohenjo-Daro. With Tum Se Tum Tak, he is once again ready to win the hearts of viewers.
