On 13 February 2026, Anand Sagar passed away peacefully in Mumbai at the age of 84. He had been battling Parkinson’s disease for the past 10–12 years. His demise sent waves of grief across the Indian television and film industry. His last rites were performed on the same day at 4:30 PM at Hindu Smashan Bhumi (Pavan Hans) in Mumbai, with family and close friends in attendance.

Prominent personalities at the prayer meet

After his demise, a prayer meet was organized in Mumbai for the peace of his soul. Several well-known personalities from the film and television industry attended to pay their respects. Hema Malini appeared calm and composed, offering comfort to the Sagar family. Jaya Bachchan also attended in a simple white attire and expressed her condolences. Poonam Dhillon prayed for the peace of the departed soul and met the family.

During this emotional event, Anu Ranjan and Shashi Ranjan were also present and offered their support to the family. Famous music director Anu Malik attended with his wife, Anju Malik, and paid tribute quietly. Neela Devi also made her presence felt, expressing condolences to the family. Senior actor Suresh Oberoi attended with his wife, Yashodhara Oberoi, and prayed for the departed soul. All the attendees remembered Anand Sagar together and honored his contributions.

Family’s emotional message

The Sagar family issued an official statement expressing profound grief over the demise of Anand Sagar. The statement described him as a person of warmth, dignity, and high values. According to the family, he represented the second generation of Sagar Arts and was beloved for his humility, wisdom, and gentle nature. His wife, Nisha Sagar Chopra, said he remained with the family until the very end and departed peacefully.

Immortal legacy of Ramayan

Anand Sagar was one of the co-producers of the historic television series Ramayan (1987–1988). The iconic series was written and directed by his father, Ramanand Sagar. The show featured Arun Govil, Dipika Chikhlia, Sunil Lahri, Arvind Trivedi, and Dara Singh in prominent roles, making it immortal in Indian television history.

Anand Sagar also produced the 2008 remake of Ramayan and played a key role in bringing the popular fantasy series Alif Laila (1993) to audiences.

Apart from television, Sagar Arts also produced several Hindi films, including Geet (1970), Lalkaar (1972), Jalte Badan (1973), Charas (1976), Prem Bandhan (1979), Armaan (1981), Baghavat (1982), Romance (1983), Salma (1985), 1971 (2007), Rabba Main Kya Karoon (2013), and Mitwaa (2015).
