Sudesh Bhosle: The Gem of Mimicry in the Sea of Music

Sudesh Bhosle is a talented artist who has made a special place in people’s hearts through his unique blend of mimicry and playback singing. Not only has he lent his voice to numerous hit Bollywood songs, but he has also imitated many legendary personalities. Sudesh is a treasure trove of talent, having woven the voices of icons like Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor into his performances.

A shining example of his talent was showcased on Kapil Sharma’s comedy show, where he sang the same song in the voices of three different singers, leaving everyone impressed. He performed the song “Laila O Laila,” originally sung by Amit Singh, showcasing his versatility.

A Voice for the Big B

Sudesh is particularly known for his exceptional mimicry of Bollywood’s megastar, Amitabh Bachchan. He has sung several iconic songs for him, including the blockbuster “Jumma Chumma De De” from the film Hum. This song remains a favorite even today. Sudesh also lent his voice to “Meri Makhna Meri Soniye” from Baagban, among other hits such as “Sawa Sawa,” “Hum Hain Banaras Ke Bhaiya,” and “Bade Miya... Chhote Miya.”

Masters of Mimicry

In addition to Amitabh Bachchan, Sudesh has showcased his mimicry skills with legends like Ashok Kumar, Vinod Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and Mithun Chakraborty. After the passing of Sanjeev Kumar, Sudesh completed the dubbing for his film Professor Ki Padosan. He received his first break as a playback singer in 1988 with the film Jaljala.

A Passion for Mimicry

In an interview, Sudesh once stated, “I am a mimicry artist. Singing in anyone’s voice doesn’t feel difficult for me.” He recounted performing the song “Imli Ka Boota” for the film Saudagar, where his portion was filmed on Rajkumar. His ability to mimic voices has allowed him to create a seamless experience, making it seem as though the original actors are singing.

A Love for Classic Songs

While he embraces contemporary music, Sudesh has a deep affinity for classic songs. He frequently performs live renditions of tracks by legendary singers like Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, and Mukesh.

The Evolution of Music

Sudesh reflects on how music has changed over the years, stating, “In the past, composers would come home to guide us on the songs, explaining the mood and situation for each piece. Now, composers often don’t even attend recording sessions. Everything has become mechanical; the soul of music has faded away.”
