Last Friday, January 2, at the historic Longewala–Tanot area near the India–Pakistan border in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, the much-awaited song ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ from the film Border 2 was launched in a grand ceremony. The event was specially dedicated to the soldiers of the Border Security Force (BSF), where an emotional blend of feelings, music, and respect was witnessed. Along with the film’s star cast, the makers were also present at the launch.

At the launch event, Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty made a spectacular entry riding in jeeps. As soon as they reached the stage, the stars greeted the BSF soldiers. The event was attended by the film’s lead actors Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, renowned singer Sonu Nigam, and co-producers Bhushan Kumar and Nidhi Dutta, along with several other team members. However, Diljit Dosanjh was notably absent from the event.
More than 12,000 people attended the ceremony, including BSF Rajasthan Frontier IG M.L. Garg and South Sector DIG Mahesh Kumar Negi.
Glimpse of Rajasthan’s Folk Culture
The launch event also showcased the rich folk culture of Rajasthan. Traditional folk dances were performed, and children dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire sang songs, making the atmosphere even more emotional. The Army Officers’ Band also performed ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’, filling the venue with patriotic fervor.
Four Singers Lend Their Voice to ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’
The song ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ from Border 2 is a recreated version of the iconic song ‘Sandese Aate Hain’ from the 1997 superhit film Border. The original song was sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, written by Javed Akhtar, and composed by Anu Malik.

The new version has been composed by Mithoon, with additional lyrics penned by Manoj Muntashir. This time, the song has been sung by four singers—Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh. However, the original song credits still include Javed Akhtar and Anu Malik.
Inspired by Father’s Film Haqeeqat
During the song launch, Sunny Deol addressed the BSF soldiers and became emotional. He said that ever since he worked in Border, he has felt like a part of their family. Sunny shared that he did Border because he had watched his father Dharmendra’s film Haqeeqat, which he loved deeply, even though he was very young at the time.
He added that when he became an actor, he spoke to J.P. Dutta, and together they decided to make a film on the Longewala subject—one that still lives in people’s hearts.
Sunny further said that he never imagined the film would inspire so many youths to join the armed forces. Wherever he goes, soldiers tell him they decided to join the army after watching Border. Saying this, Sunny Deol became emotional and added, “I am part of your family. I won’t be able to say much more because my mind is a bit shaken.”

It is worth mentioning that Sunny Deol’s father Dharmendra passed away recently. After his demise, Dharmendra’s last film Ikkis was released, and now Sunny Deol’s film Border 2 is set for release.

During the event, Varun Dhawan spoke about the 1971 war and delivered a message of patriotism. He said that India believes in peace and harmony, but films like Border are necessary because they convey to the youth that the country is strong and capable of responding if challenged.
Varun also recited a powerful dialogue from the film: “This time, we won’t just enter the border—we will change the border.” The dialogue received thunderous applause from the audience.
Carrying Forward My Father’s Legacy: Ahan Shetty

Ahan Shetty thanked the organizers and audience and said that since Border had also begun from this historic location, returning here was an emotional experience for him. He said standing on the same stage with Sunny Deol, Nidhi Dutta, and Bhushan Kumar was a huge honor.
Ahan admitted that being part of Border 2 was not just signing a film for him, but carrying forward a legacy. When producer Nidhi Dutta offered him the film, he was momentarily speechless, as his father was part of the first Border, and now he carries the responsibility of taking that story forward. He said ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ is not just a song, but the emotion of an entire nation—the voice of every family waiting for their son, husband, or father to return from the border.
Sonu Nigam Speaks
At the event, Sonu Nigam performed ‘Sandese Aate Hain’. From the stage, he said that he sang this song nearly 30 years ago. At that time, songs were made, but their impact wasn’t always this deep. This song gave him an identity, a title, and strengthened people’s faith in him.
He praised J.P. Dutta, calling him kind and affectionate, and recalled that he was just 21 years old when he first sang the song. Sonu said he never imagined that after 30 years, he would once again be associated with this film and sing for it. He described Sunny Deol as the backbone of the film, expressed pride in Varun Dhawan, and said that Ahan Shetty is now carrying forward the legacy of his father. Sonu added that he feels honored to be part of this project and is eagerly waiting to watch the film.

Producer Nidhi Dutta appeared emotional at the event. She said that Border and ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ are not just a film or a song for her family, but memories connected across generations. During the 1971 Longewala war, Indian Air Force Squadron Leader Deepak Dutta—her father J.P. Dutta’s younger brother—was part of that historic battle.
She shared that during those days, her grandmother would sit near the radio and repeatedly ask, “Will my son come home?”—and that very emotion became the soul of this timeless song. She added that the first Border was dedicated to her uncle, and Border 2 is dedicated to every soldier and their family who sacrifice for the nation.

Producer Bhushan Kumar said that Border 2 is not made with commercial intent but with emotion and respect. He admitted that recreating this song was not easy, but the entire team lived it with their hearts, and he called Sunny Deol’s portion the most emotional part of the song.
Sunny, Varun and Ahan Dance with Soldiers

During the event, soldiers danced to ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ and invited Sunny, Varun, and Ahan—who were seated—to join them. Everyone danced together and celebrated the song’s release.

The film team honored army officers by draping them with shawls, while the army presented the film’s makers and team with a silver camel as a token of respect. During the event, BSF soldiers also performed a patriotic skit in front of the cast, which left Sunny Deol emotional.
