Renowned film producer Vipul Shah, who is currently in the spotlight for his film The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond, held a press conference on Friday, February 27. During the interaction, he spoke about the film receiving clearance for release from the Kerala High Court and addressed several media questions.
Committee of Eight Experts Reviewed the Film
While speaking to the media, Vipul Shah revealed that the film was reviewed by a committee of eight experts. He said: “After the High Court’s order, there is no point in further discussion. The honorable judges found no fault in the functioning of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). I want to clarify one thing. Usually, a censor screening committee consists of five members. However, for this film, there were eight members, including two social workers from Kerala, to ensure that there was no misinformation related to the state.”

He further added: “The Kerala Divisional Bench has dismissed the stay order and cleared the film’s release. Our shows have begun. The film has been made with great effort. I believe the authenticity of our film is proven by the fact that the Kerala High Court lifted the stay. If anything had been wrong, the court would not have taken this decision. I am grateful to the Kerala Court.”
We Are Not Against Kerala
Vipul Shah emphasized that neither he nor his team holds anything against Kerala or its people. “Neither I, nor my film, nor my team is against the state of Kerala or its people. Kerala is a beautiful place, a God-loving land. But if something wrong happens anywhere, it is our duty to bring it to notice and correct it. I promise that when you watch the film, you will understand that we have not portrayed Kerala or its people negatively.”

Exposing Criminals Is Necessary
He clarified that the film aims to expose certain criminals. “The film exposes some criminals. Some criminals live in Kerala, some in Madhya Pradesh, and some in Rajasthan. That is why we named the film The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond. I assure you that once you watch the film, you will realize that we have not shown Kerala in a negative manner.”

Response to Anurag Kashyap
During the press conference, Vipul Shah also responded to comments made by filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap. He said: “I do not make personal comments about Anurag. It is his personal opinion. My audience had a very valid topic to respond to, and there has been no reply from Anurag yet.” For context, Anurag Kashyap, known for directing Gangs of Wasseypur, had previously called The Kerala Story a “terrible film” and “absolute nonsense.”

Questioning Anurag’s Film
Vipul Shah also raised questions about one of Anurag’s films, That Girl in Yellow Boots. He said, “Anurag made a film called That Girl in Yellow Boots. It was about a romantic relationship between a father and daughter. So, should we take seriously the comments of someone who makes a film about a physical relationship between a father and daughter?”

Following the removal of the stay order, theatre owners and distributors are now expected to proceed with screenings as planned. Industry experts believe that the legal controversy may have increased public curiosity, potentially impacting the film’s box office performance in the coming days.
