Actor Kunal Kemmu is back with his new web series Single Papa, promising a unique mix of comedy and emotions. The makers unveiled the trailer of this comedy-drama series on 2 December, which has doubled the excitement among fans on social media. The entire cast—Kunal Kemmu, Neha Dhupia, Prajakta Koli and Manoj Pahwa—graced the trailer launch event and spoke openly about their characters and experiences while working on the series.
Kunal Shares the ‘Perks’ of Being a Single Papa
During the launch event, Kunal Kemmu was asked about the advantages of being a single father. He jokingly replied, “You get a fat cheque from Netflix! Otherwise, I don’t know, because I’m not a single father. I have a partner. There, you have to listen to everything. But yes, as a single father, you can make your own decisions. This show taught me that being a single dad may seem fun or easy, but it’s actually very challenging.”
Talking about the emotional and comic journey of his character, Kunal added, “This show is not just about a single father. It’s about family, relationships, and that saying—‘A child is the father of the man.’ When a child enters your life, you grow up in many ways. The show also highlights how fathers often get less credit, even though they do a lot.”

Kunal–Prajakta’s On-Screen Chemistry
Kunal revealed an interesting takeaway from working with Prajakta for the first time. He said, “In comedy, ‘sound’—meaning reaction and timing—is everything. Our timing matched so perfectly that during one scene, we laughed for 30 minutes straight and couldn’t shoot!”
He also praised the cast and mentioned, “I’m not just talking about my own character. Manoj ji’s character is beautifully written. One of my favourite scenes from the show is with him, where he talks about the importance of fatherhood.”
Manoj Pahwa and Ayesha Raza’s Fun Banter
As soon as Manoj Pahwa and Ayesha Raza came on stage, their old chemistry and witty humour won everyone over. Manoj Pahwa said, “The script was fantastic, the co-actors were talented, and working with Shashank was a bonus—so I knew I had to do this show.” Ayesha Raza added with a smile, “Manoj ji can create chemistry with anyone! The real challenge is keeping up with him.”
Director Neeraj Udhwani Explains the Core Idea
Director Neeraj Udhwani shared, “A woman experiences motherhood the moment she becomes pregnant. But a man becomes a father only when he holds his child for the first time. It switches something on inside him. Until then, every man is a ‘man-child’. He may know fatherhood in theory, but its true essence comes only with experience. We felt this journey deserved to be shown on screen.”
Where the Inspiration Came From
Creators Neeraj and Ishita shared that the idea for Single Papa was born at an airport. They saw a father trying to change his baby’s diaper, but there was no diaper station in the men’s washroom. “Watching him struggle, we realised—this is a story. And that’s where our show originated.”
