Glamour, grace, and a grounded approach – when it comes to Vaani Kapoor, these three traits instantly come to mind. Since stepping into Bollywood with Shuddh Desi Romance in 2013, Vaani has not only impressed audiences with her performances but also with her humility and sharp intellect. Right from her debut, where she won the Filmfare Best Debut Award, Vaani has been winning hearts. Now, she is all set to embark on a new journey—this time in the digital space.
Yes, you heard that right! Vaani will soon be seen in the much-awaited mythological crime thriller web series Mandala Murders, produced by Netflix and YRF Entertainment.
A New Genre, A New Challenge
In a recent interview, Vaani opened up about her OTT debut and revealed that she had been looking for a special and challenging project that could make her digital entry truly memorable. “Getting a project like Mandala Murders is a blessing for me. It’s a story that will demand a new avatar from me—physically and mentally. This is a genre I’ve never ventured into before. Taking this bold decision has helped me explore new layers of depth, struggle, and sensitivity—elements that are essential for powerful storytelling,” said Vaani.
Directed by Gopi Puthran—best known for acclaimed films like Mardaani and Mardaani 2—the series blends mythology with mystery and crime. It is co-directed by Manan Rawat. Apart from Vaani, the series also stars talented actors like Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Surveen Chawla, and Shriya Pilgaonkar in key roles. Mandala Murders is set to premiere on OTT on 25th July 2025.
How She Got Her First Big Break
It may come as a surprise, but Vaani landed her debut film Shuddh Desi Romance because of her political general knowledge. She recalls that when she first met casting director Shanoo Sharma, several models were shortlisted for the role. During their conversation, Shanoo asked her a general knowledge question, to which Vaani responded correctly. That answer, along with her energy, impressed Shanoo so much that she was called for an audition—and the rest is history.
In her 11-year-long film career, Vaani has appeared in several movies, including Befikre, War, Shamshera, Bell Bottom, Khel Khel Mein, and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. Most recently, she was seen with Ajay Devgn in Raid 2. In these films, she has portrayed characters full of romance, glamour, and drama.
Meanwhile, her film Abir Gulaal has been indefinitely postponed due to the India-Pakistan controversy in Pahalgam, as it stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
Having portrayed glamorous and dramatic roles in her previous films, Mandala Murders marks not just a new beginning for Vaani but also an opportunity for her to reinvent herself as an actress.
Now, all eyes are on how this new move into the OTT space will resonate with audiences.
