Death Anniversary BR Chopra: Father of Indian films

The elders of every household definitely know B.R. Chopra.

There are two reasons for this, one is his films and the other is the serial 'Mahabharata' telecast on Doordarshan. BR Chopra was the producer of Mahabharata. Because of Mahabharata, people started recognizing BR Chopra in every household. Today is the death anniversary of BR Chopra. Let us take a look at the invaluable work done by producer and director BR Chopra.

BR Chopra was one of those few filmmakers who wanted to give a message to the society through his films. Every film of BR Chopra was based on a purposeful subject. If we look at the subject of his film Ek Hi Raasta which was released in 1955, then that film was made on the issue of widow remarriage. Very few filmmakers have the courage to make films on such serious issues and that too so many years ago, so it was indeed a very brave act. In his 1957 film 'Naya Daur', he again satirized a social issue. In this film, the conflict between the manual labourers and the machine age was shown. This film has been one of the golden jubilee films. Then in 1959 came the film 'Dhool Ka Phool'. In this, BR Chopra showed the problems and tortures of a woman who becomes a mother without marriage. Even today the public will probably oppose a film on an unmarried mother. But BR Chopra did not do anything. Chopra preferred to show the truth without being afraid of all these things. Rajendra Kumar and Mala Sinha also acted very well in this film and presented this subject in an effective way on screen.

BR Chopra also made a film on Hindu-Muslim relations, named 'Dharmaputra'. The song from BR Chopra's film 'Tu Hindu Banega Na Musalman Banega, Insaan Ki Aulad Hai Insaan Banega' is equally relevant in today's scenario. The song from the film Sadhna, 'Aurat Ne Janam Diya Mardon Ko, Mardon Ne Use Bazaar Diya', this song describes the status of women in society so well. BR Chopra has fearlessly made films mainly on the injustice done to women in the society. Now whether it is the film 'Nikaah', which talks about the mistreatment of Muslim women or 'Insaaf Ka Tarazu', which talks about women exploitation, in every film he has laid the foundation of women empowerment. Today, the triple talaq bill has been passed in the country, but BR Chopra had raised this issue in the film 'Nikaah' many years ago. Society and especially women should be grateful to B.R. Chopra that he made the fight of women against the society a little easier through his films.

The songs of BR Chopra's films are as evergreen as his films. Whether it is the song 'Tum agar saath dene ka vaada karo' from the film 'Humraaz' or the song 'Aye meri zohra jabi tujhe maloom nahin' and 'Kaun aaya ki nigahon mein chamak jaag uthi' from the film 'Waqt', who doesn't know these songs. BR Chopra has many other memorable films like Ittefaq, Dhund, Gumraah, Awam etc. BR Chopra used to make films of every genre. Talking about comedy films, BR Chopra's 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' which starred Ranjeeta, Vidya Sinha and Sanjeev Kumar was a pure comedy film in which extramarital affair was also shown in a very humorous way. And recently the trailer of the remake of this film has come in which BR Chopra's name is seen. This remake has been produced by Renu Ravi Chopra.

Now if we talk about Mahabharata produced by BR Chopra, then it is a timeless serial of a timeless creation like 'Mahabharata'. Such a serial cannot be made again on Mahabharata. Now where do we get to see such Mahabharata on TV, when people at home sit peacefully without taking a breath and keep their eyes glued to the TV and not a single creature is visible on the road. In BR Chopra's Mahabharata, every character was so much in people's mind that people used to forget that these characters are acting, they used to consider them as God. In this Mahabharata, not a single character was shown as hero or villain, but time itself was shown as the real hero. The most important thing is that BR Chopra got the script of the Hindu epic Mahabharata written by a Muslim writer Rahi Masoom Raza. And this proves that BR Chopra believed in Hindu Muslim unity in real life as well as in films. And here it would be wrong if writer Rahi Masoom Raza is not praised. He wrote such a Mahabharata which no other writer wrote again.
