Hema started dancing at the age of 5

Born in a Tamil family, Hema Malini was the third child of her parents. Her mother Jaya Lakshmi Chakraborty was a producer. Her mother wanted her to become a dancer and this was the reason why when she was five years old, her mother tied Ghunghru (a pair of anklets) on her feet. Hema Malini herself has said that she wanted to play with her friends, but her mother would ask her to dance.

Born in Chennai, Hema Malini did her early education there. History has been her favorite subject. But, she could not even complete her schooling. Because she started getting offers for films continuously. Hema started her career at the age of just 14.

Hema was rejected in her first film itself

Some time ago, Hema Malini told another interesting story of her life. She had told me that when she got an offer for a film, but when she met the director, she was rejected because of her figure. Hema Malini told that the director wanted a fat heroine for that role and she was very thin at that time.

MP from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, Hema Malini made her acting debut in 1963 with the Tamil film 'Pandav Vanvasan'. After that, she appeared in Bollywood for the first time in the 1968 film 'Sapnon Ka Saudagar'. After that, Hema Malini worked in about 200 films.

Hema donated her eyes in 2007

Very few people would know that Hema Malini had donated her eyes in the year 2007. She had then said in one of her statements- 'We need eyes for 2 lakh people every year whereas we are getting only about 30 thousand eyes in donation. - Hema's first directed film was 'Dil Aashna Hai', in which she directed Shah Rukh Khan. Hema is also a trained classical dancer. She is well-trained in Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, and Odissi and often performs stage shows around the world.

- Apart from Dharmendra, Jeetendra and Sanjeev Kumar also liked Hema Malini very much and wanted to marry her. Meanwhile, there were reports that Jeetendra and Hema Malini had decided to get married and they were in Chennai. At that time, Jeetendra was also having a romance with his Shobha (current wife).

Married to Dharmendra in 1980

- As soon as this was known, Dharmendra reached Madras with Shobha and it is said that Shobha created a ruckus there due to which Jeetendra and Hema could not get married. Later Dharmendra married Hema Malini. Let us tell you that Hema Malini married the famous actor Dharmendra in 1980.

- In the 1970s, Dharmendra and Hema were considered to be a guarantee of making any film a hit. Dharmendra-Hema worked together for the first time in the film 'Sharafat' released in 1970. But, this film did not do well. After this, the Dharmendra-Hema pair were seen together in 'Naya Zamana'.

Did more than 27 films with Dharmendra

- This pair got successful with the film 'Seeta Aur Geeta'. After the huge success of 'Sholay', people started calling them Veeru and Basanti. Dharmendra-Hema pair has given many memorable films to Bollywood. Both of them worked together in about 27 films and 16 of these films have been super hits.

- Hema Malini was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2000. Hema Malini has also been awarded the Padma Bhushan Award for her commendable contribution to the film industry. Along with this, PETA honored Hema Malini with the Person of the Year in the year 2011 for raising her voice against animal cruelty and promoting vegetarian food.

Hema is a Lok Sabha MP from Mathura

Hema Malini's political innings started in the year 1999 when she first started campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Hema entered active politics in 2004. Currently, she is a Lok Sabha MP from Mathura.
