Some films make history, while others leave a mark simply by never being made. One such film is a project that began 18 years ago but never made it past pre-production. The film starred Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn, and now, there are attempts to revive it. However, both the lead actors have requested a full review of the project before it resumes. The film in question is Bihad.
Ajay Devgn & Sanjay Dutt’s 2007 Film May Get Revival
This film's troubled journey began back in 2007, but its story is one of unusual complications. What started with great enthusiasm was eventually derailed by a bizarre dispute over vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Both lead actors wanted the film to move forward, but the argument over food preferences was so intense that the project was ultimately halted. Now, after much deliberation between the producers and the director, it seems the project may finally get a second chance. However, the stars, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, have set one condition: they want a complete reassessment of the project to determine if the script still has the same appeal today.
Bihad was originally directed by Milan Luthria, with producers Banti Walia, Kumar Gaurav, and Babloo Pachisia attached. The cast included Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Manoj Bajpayee, among others. The film was to be based on a real-life story, set against the backdrop of dacoits and was scheduled to be shot in the Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh.
Before shooting began, the team had several script sittings. Babloo Pachisia, known for being a strict vegetarian, ran the production office. One day, during a sitting with Milan Luthria and the producers, lunch time came, and Milan ordered non-vegetarian food. As soon as Babloo walked in and saw the non-veg food being served, he lost his temper. What followed was an intense argument between Babloo and Milan over the issue of food. The dispute escalated to a point where the project was almost called off. Babloo wanted Milan out of the project, but Milan had a strong friendship with Ajay Devgn, which made the situation even more complicated. In the end, the film was shelved.
Now, there are reports that Milan Luthria wants to revisit this project. The screenplay was written by Mahesh Bhatt, and he too is encouraging the producers and director to revive the film, citing that there is a need for such a film in today’s times. However, both Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt are keen to get back to the project but on one condition: they want to ensure that the script and the characters are still relevant for modern audiences. Cinema has changed, the roles of actors have evolved, and so have the expectations of the audience.
Whether this long-forgotten film will finally see the light of day remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the ongoing debate between vegetarians and non-vegetarians has somehow sparked a new wave of thinking about revisiting past ideas.
