Bollywood has lost many of its beloved stars unexpectedly, leaving fans and families heartbroken. But what's truly chilling is that some of these legendary figures had seemingly predicted their own deaths — whether in passing comments, interviews, or conversations with loved ones. Here's a look at a few stars who had an eerie sense of their impending departure.
Kishore Kumar
The legendary singer-actor Kishore Kumar, fondly remembered as ‘Kishore Da’, once joked about having a heart attack — a comment that, shockingly, came true the very same day.
In a 2002 interview with Rediff, his son Amit Kumar shared that Kishore Da once casually said, “If I get a heart attack, I’ll probably just collapse right here.” Sadly, that’s exactly what happened on October 13, 1987, when he suffered a fatal heart attack.
Popular Films- Naukri (1954), Bap Re Bap (1955), Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Jhumroo (1961), Padosan (1968)
Popular Songs: Dil Kya Kare (Julie, 1975), Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (Blackmail, 1973), Gaata Rahe Mera Dil (Guide, 1965), Yeh Raaten Yeh Mausam (Delhi Ka Thug, 1958), among many others.
Sanjeev Kumar
Veteran actor Sanjeev Kumar, known for his versatile performances in films like Sholay and Trishul, once revealed that he didn’t expect to live a long life.
During an appearance on Tabassum Talkies, host Tabassum asked him why he was so drawn to elderly roles. His response was haunting: “A palmist once told me I wouldn’t live very long, so I play older characters to live that life on screen.” Tragically, he passed away at just 47 on November 6, 1985.
Popular Films- Shikar (1968), Khilona (1970), Koshish (1972), Sholay (1975), Aandhi (1975), Trishul (1978), Angoor (1982)
Rishi Kapoor
The charismatic Rishi Kapoor — a romantic icon of the '80s and father of actor Ranbir Kapoor — passed away on April 30, 2020. But years earlier, he had made a somber prediction.
In a 2016 interview, he said, “Given the way I live, I don’t think I’ll live very long.” He even tweeted, “When I die, no one will attend my funeral.” Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, his funeral was attended by only a few close family members — just as he had predicted.
Popular Films: Bobby (1973), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Karz (1980), Prem Rog (1982), Chandni (1989), Do Dooni Chaar (2010), Kapoor & Sons (2016)
Om Puri
Om Puri, known for his intense performances and deep voice, also had a prophetic moment before his passing.
In a 2016 interview, he said, “My contribution as an actor will be truly recognized after I’m gone. Film students, especially, will study my work.” Just months later, on January 6, 2017, he died of a heart attack at his Mumbai residence at the age of 66.
Popular Films- Aakrosh (1980), Ardh Satya (1983), Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Hera Pheri (2000), Maqbool (2003), The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014)
Smita Patil
Acclaimed actress Smita Patil also had an uncanny sense that her time was limited. According to the book The Marigold Story: Indira Gandhi & Others, when a friend advised her against settling down with married actor Raj Babbar, she replied, “I don’t have time to find someone else. I just want to become a mother — I don’t have much time.”
Heartbreakingly, she passed away shortly after giving birth to her son, actor Prateik Babbar.
Popular Films: Bhumika (1977), Aakrosh (1980), Chakra (1981), Arth (1982), Mirch Masala (1985), Amrit (1986), Waaris (1988).
