Audience Awaits Vaquar Shaikh’s Fierce Negative Avatar in ‘Seher Hone Ko Hai’

Known for his versatility and having worked with Manoj Bajpayee, actor Vaquar Shaikh is all set to appear before the audience in a completely new avatar. Colors TV’s upcoming show ‘Seher Hone Ko Hai’ has been creating buzz due to its sensitive theme, strong emotions, and deep social relevance. Vaquar plays the main antagonist Parvez—a father bound by outdated beliefs and regressive ideology. Returning to a dark and challenging character after a long time, Vaquar spoke openly to Mayapuri Magazine’s journalist Shilpa Nalamwar about his role, the soul of the story, and the harsh social realities that still exist. People are loving the promo. What is the core story of ‘Seher Hone Ko Hai’?

Thank you so much. The promos have received exceptional response not just from India, but from abroad as well. The grand visuals, powerful scenes, and the look of all the characters have made audiences extremely excited.
The story is based on the emotional journey of a mother and her daughter. The mother has faced many bitter truths—early marriage, becoming a mother too soon, incomplete education, and sacrificing her own dreams. She does not want the same pain to reach her daughter. This struggle, this emotional battle, is the real heart and strength of the story.

Tell us something about your character in the show.

My character’s name is Parvez, and he is the negative force in the story. He is a dark, strict, controlling father—but the interesting part is that he believes he is right. His upbringing and social environment have shaped him this way, and because of this mindset, he is against his daughter’s freedom and education.

How challenging was it to portray a negative character?

Very challenging. Playing such characters is mentally draining because they reflect the harsh reality of our society. Even today, in many parts of India, girls are stopped from studying, forced into early marriage, and denied their basic rights. This bitter truth is deeply rooted in Parvez’s mind.

What does “Seher” mean to you personally?

For me, “Seher” means a new beginning—especially a beginning that’s difficult but capable of transforming your life. Things that come easily have no real value. I believe you should take the first step on a tough path, work hard, stay consistent… one day, your life will also witness its own “Seher.”

How was your experience in ‘Anupamaa’? What was it like working with Rajan Shahi?

My experience in Anupamaa was wonderful. Working with Rajan Shahi was great—our bond was more like friends. In Anupamaa, my character showcased romance and even dancing. And now in ‘Seher Hone Ko Hai’, I am stepping into a completely opposite zone—playing a negative role.

A romantic role, then suddenly such a dark character—how do you see this transition?

This transition is what defines an actor. My role in Anupamaa was romantic, while Parvez is completely opposite. I enjoy playing diverse roles. I don’t want to repeat myself—that’s why such characters give me energy and keep me excited about my craft.

What message would you like to give to your fans and viewers?

Parvez will trouble you, shock you—but the story will definitely touch your heart. You have given me so much love over the years, and I hope this character receives your love, too.
