How did the idea of bringing Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain – Fun on the Run from television to film come about?

This show has been running continuously for the last 11 years and has been the number one show on its channel. We were very keen to explore how it could be adapted into a film. On television, we cannot show the same things that we can in a film on a daily basis. The film allows us to use expansive locations and large sets. We brought together Ravi Kishan, Mukesh Tiwari, and several other popular actors. The entire team and cast went to Dehradun to shoot the film. Our show’s director, Shashank ji, directed the film, while the script was written by Raghuveer Shikhawat. During this time, our writer Manoj Santoshi passed away, so the film is dedicated to him. We have preserved the true flavour and soul of his writing in the film.

Was Ravi Kishan’s presence meant to take the film’s comedy and appeal to another level?

His character has been presented in a completely new way in the film. The most important elements of comedy are strong, memorable, and organic characters that are deeply connected to the story and instantly attract the audience. Ravi Kishan’s role brings a whole new level of humour with his energy, timing, and comic sensibility. His dialogues, style, and performance not only add lightness to the narrative but also help audiences connect with the characters. Moreover, there are no small roles in the film—every character has significance, and the balance of comedy is maintained in every scene. We have ensured that the audience enjoys every moment, keeps laughing, and finds the film experience fresh and entertaining.

Comedy should not be dirty or offensive—how difficult is it to maintain this balance today?

Comedy is the most difficult genre. It should never hurt anyone’s sentiments. The comedy in Bhabiji has always been innocent, cute, and family-friendly. Even double meanings are kept minimal and presented in a harmless way—meant to evoke laughter, not discomfort. For instance, we never crack jokes that feel vulgar or suggestive; every line is straightforward and light-hearted, so the audience laughs without feeling uneasy. The same effort has gone into this film as well—every action and every scene maintains a balance of comedy. The story is written in a way that keeps the humour flowing without violating anyone’s emotions. That’s why Bhabiji’s comedy remains safe and entertaining for audiences of all ages. Manoj Santoshi was deeply associated with this film. He was an extremely talented and unique writer. Sadly, he is no longer with us, and this film is dedicated to him.

Your wife, Binaiferr Kohli, has played a huge role in your career—how does she complement you personally and professionally?

We have been together for the past 35 years, and this journey has been extremely important for us, both personally and professionally. In the office, there is only one boss—and that’s me. However, while we manage our respective departments and responsibilities, every important decision is taken together. This approach helps us maintain balance in both our personal and professional lives. Binaiferr is not just a partner in my career; she is my biggest strength and support. She understands my decisions at work, stands by me through every challenge, offers advice, and takes responsibility whenever required. This understanding and balance have always helped us guide our team in the right direction. Our mutual understanding and equilibrium are our greatest strengths.

What was the biggest lesson you learned when you first established yourself as a producer?

The biggest lesson was the importance of discipline and timelines. A producer must always be prepared—sometimes locations change, sometimes actors fall ill. In every situation, it’s crucial to stay calm, take quick decisions, and manage the team effectively. The industry taught me that success depends not only on creativity but also on organisation, time management, and a firefighter-like readiness to handle crises. These lessons help me manage my team and projects better every time.

Is there any memory or experience with Mayapuri magazine that still feels special to you?

My journey with Mayapuri has been long and special. Many times they covered our hard work and shows; sometimes they also criticised us. But every experience taught me how important it is to face the media with patience and understanding. I still have some clippings with me today, which remind me that respect and hard work always hold value in this industry.
