Urvashi Upadhyay, who plays the character ‘Kusum’ in Mangal Lakshmi, shared some of her childhood mischiefs and memorable moments in a delightful way with Lotpot Comics.

Question: We all have some memories from our childhood. You must have had your share of fun and mischief as well. Your fans would definitely like to know how naughty and playful you were as a child. Also, what were your favorite foods? Could you share a bit about this with us?

Urvashi Upadhyay

Urvashi Upadhyay: Just thinking about my childhood brings a smile to my face because it was truly special and filled with golden memories. We didn’t exactly witness the full transition from black-and-white TV to color, but we did live in the era when Ramayan and Mahabharat were just starting. Shows like Shaktimaan, Chandrakanta, Patal Lok, Potli Baba Ki, and Vikram-Betaal were part of our daily excitement. Unlike today, when you can watch TV or mobile content anytime, back then we had to wait for the episodes. At school, friends would ask, “Hey, did you watch yesterday’s episode?” And if the power went out at your home and you missed it, that episode was gone forever! Then you had to hear the story from friends. Yes, our childhood was truly precious—everything had value.

As for mischief, I wasn’t very naughty or mischievous. From a young age, I loved reading. I really enjoyed fiction and novels, probably because of my mother—she was an avid reader herself. This created a home environment surrounded by books. Even today, if you visit my house in Mumbai, you’ll find a huge library. Books remain very precious to me.

And yes, Lotpot magazine is one of my fondest childhood memories! Even today, looking at it feels like my childhood has come back. Talking about Motu-Patlu, everyone knows them! Even in my home, children love watching them. Even today, reading the comics and watching the episodes brings me the same joy as it did in childhood. I plan to give this magazine to my own children because kids nowadays read less, but fun things like this will definitely appeal to them. It combines general knowledge, picture stories, and everything in such a simple and entertaining way.
