Starting his career as an assistant director, Balwinder Singh Janjua entered the entertainment industry with '23 March 1931: Shaheed'. After that, he worked as an assistant director in films like 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon' and 'Apne'. Subsequently, in 2010, he debuted as a producer and writer with the Gurdas Maan, Jonita, Gaurav Kakkar-starrer Punjabi drama 'Chak Jawana'. Let us tell you that in 2017, he wrote the script and story of Arjun Kapoor, Ileana D'Cruz, and Athiya Shetty-starrer romantic comedy Mubarakan and also joined the film as a creative producer. The same year, he wrote the script for the historical comedy Firangi starring Kapil Sharma, which also starred Ishita Dutta and Monica Gill in pivotal roles. After this, he also wrote scripts for films like Saand Ki Aankh (2019), and Puada (2021).

Tera Kya Hoga Lovely: Karan Kundrra's Multifaceted Role

He also wrote the script for his film Tera Kya Hoga Lovely (2024) and is also the director of this film. Randeep Hooda and Ileana D'Cruz are seen in the lead roles in the film 'Tera Kya Hoga Lovely'. Along with them, Karan Kundrra, Pawan Malhotra, Rajendra Gupta, Meghna Malik, and Shruti Pawar are seen in supporting roles in the film.

In your film you have presented social topics in a comedy style which is not easy, how was your journey with this film?

The journey was very good but a little long because the film took some time to release. It was a lot of fun while doing the film because as a writer you first think about what kind of story you want to write or which idea inspires you. This problem exists in our entire country that we discriminate because of color and this especially happens with girls. Girls face problems in marriage. If the girl is even a little dark then people say that we cannot marry her because our entire future generation will be born black. We have seen this in our family, neighborhood, and society. I felt that a good story could be written on this subject. The effort was to write a good story which, if told entertainingly, would be liked more by people. Another problem also arises in this problem, when your complexion is dark you have to pay double the dowry and then the dowry-like problem arises. The entire journey of the film was a lot of fun, and we made the film with a lot of heart. We made the film during the time of Covid and due to that the film was stalled and then we shot after Covid. And that's why it took so much time for the release of the film.

Why is it that so many things are seen about girls at the time of marriage, their color, dowry, and whatnot? What would you like to say about this?

Our country has been male-dominated, so there are many problems, and this is a very big problem. Now I think things are changing because girls are moving forward and making a name for themselves. But there are still many sections where such things happen. Why this happens only with girls is a big question. I think now that things are slowly changing, it is good to bring such films which will create awareness among the people because such subjects are very sensitive. The climax of the film is based on Lovely's character, what is her pain, and what has she felt, this is shown throughout the entire film. I think there is a need to pay a little more attention to all these things and handle them sensitively. I hope that gradually all these things will change.

How was the experience of working with Randeep, Ileana, Karan, and the entire cast?

It has been a very good experience. The film stars Randeep, Ileana, Karan, Pawan Malhotra, Rajendra Gupta, Meghna Malik, Geeta Aggarwal, Geetika Vidya, Shruti Pawar, and many more. In the film, we were also telling the story of a joint family, and in that too there is a wedding house in which all the relatives will be there. The entire story is based on relationships and the character of Lovely. I feel that such problems start from home itself, it is the family members who start speaking first. There is a scene in our film where Lovely's father tells her not to drink tea otherwise you will turn black. Things will be fine when no matter what happens, he does not have to hear such taunts from his family members, rather you as a family should boost his confidence. We have tried to show in the film that you should not do this with your family and children. I believe that every problem starts at home and ends at home only.

This is a comedy film, it is difficult to create humor on such a topic, and how was your journey?

I think writing comedy is the hardest especially when there are so many characters in the film. But if it turns out to be good and people also like it, then there is nothing more gratifying than that.

Your film ‘Sub First Class’ is coming, would you like to say something about it?

The film stars Varun Sharma, Shehnaaz Gill, Manu Rishi, Kusha Kapila, and Faizal Malik. This is also a comedy film which is on a social issue and has a very interesting story. I feel that if things are said entertainingly, people enjoy and understand them as well. The film is on a very simple issue, if I put it in simple words, it says that nowadays people spread their legs more than the bed sheet.

Would you like to tell us something about your upcoming projects?

Right now there is an action film that we are working on but I can't tell you much about it.

If you liked the trailer then please go and watch this film with your family. This film is family-based and also entertainingly gives a message.
