Nikhil Arya on His Latest Film: "Characters That Would Devour a Script

The Marathi film Gulabi is currently making waves, not just for its captivating storyline but also for the impressive feat of having collected millions before even hitting the screens. Actor Nikhil Arya, who stars in the film, shared his insights on the film's content, his character, working with co-stars, and his experience during the shoot in an exclusive interview with Maya Puri Magazine. • Gulabi has already made millions before its release. What do you think about this impressive achievement?

Yes, it’s quite an amazing achievement! One of the songs from the film got millions of views within just five days of its release, and the second song is also doing incredibly well. The music in the film is fantastic. The compositions are by Sai Piyush, the lyrics by Mandar Cholkar, and the beautiful voice of Aarya Ambekar brings the songs to life. What’s remarkable is that these songs are written and sung keeping all generations in mind, making them relatable for everyone.

• We’ve seen your poster. What kind of character can we expect from you in this film?

This film has multiple shades and characters. It tells the story of three generations of women, and my character will have an impact on two of these generations. The film highlights a very important message: you cannot always depend on others. When you need to do something, you have to do it yourself. Each woman’s story in the film is very different from the others, but all of them have something valuable to teach us. The film combines comedy, happiness, and even sadness.

• What is the theme of the film, and what content can the audience expect?

The film addresses the generation gap. In today’s world, we see a lot of dating apps and instant communication. When we hand over a phone to a young person, they quickly get our work done and return the phone without a second thought. The film shows broken lives and how people can heal from them. It features three different stories, but ultimately, it captures the reality of what’s happening in our lives today.

• The film features some prominent actors from the Marathi industry. How was it working with them?

Mrunal Kulkarni has done so much work in the Hindi industry that it's wrong to call her just a Marathi actress. She’s been a part of several Hindi films. Ashwini Bhave Ji was someone we admired even in our school days. Shruti Marathe is a sensation in the Marathi industry, and Suhas Joshi Ji is a legend. I feel lucky to have worked with all of them. There were many reasons I agreed to be part of this film: the content, my character, the script, and of course, the songs – all of these aspects really appealed to me.

• How much did you enjoy the shooting of the film?

I really enjoyed shooting for Gulabi. We filmed in the Pink City, Jaipur, which included scenes in grand palaces. During the shoot, I ended up buying a lot of pink clothes! And yes, we also enjoyed eating dal-baati during our breaks. Everyone on set was fun-loving, and the entire atmosphere was filled with joy and creativity.

• The audience is already showering this film with love. What do you think is the reason behind it?

There’s something for everyone in this film. For the younger generation, there’s plenty to connect with, and for women, the film is truly empowering. The characters in the film are so well-developed that when you give them a script, they can bring it to life effortlessly. Moreover, it’s a complete family film, making it suitable for all kinds of viewers.

• What would you like to say to your fans?

In Gulabi, alongside Nikhil Arya, several experienced actors play crucial roles, including Ashwini Bhave, Mrunal Kulkarni, Shruti Marathe, Suhas Joshi, and Shailesh Datar. With their exceptional performances and the engaging storyline, this film is sure to captivate the audience.

Gulabi has already made history by earning 1 crore before its release, a first for Marathi cinema. It’s a record-breaking feat, and the film is all set to hit theaters on November 22.
