Renowned Bollywood actress Nimrat Kaur, known for her stellar performances in films and web series like Airlift, The Lunchbox, and Dasvi, is currently seen in the web series ‘Kull’.
Nimrat Kaur Interview: Role, Army Life & New Projects
In a recent interview with India’s prestigious film magazine Mayapuri, journalist Shilpa Patil sat down with Nimrat to talk about her character, the show’s response, upcoming projects, her army background, and views on terrorism. Here’s what she had to say:
- What kind of response have you received from the audience for your web series ‘Kull’?
Honestly, it makes me really happy when people come up and say they’ve watched the show and loved the character ‘Indrani’. Everywhere I go, people want to talk about the show. It feels amazing to know that the story kept them hooked from start to finish.
- In today’s OTT era with content overload, what made ‘Kull’ stand out?
You’re absolutely right – there's a flood of content on OTT these days. But very few stories truly shake the audience. Kull is one of those rare gems. The story is so gripping that even during shooting, I was eager to find out what would happen next. That’s its beauty.
- How challenging was it to portray the character of Indrani?
Indrani is a strong yet emotionally shattered woman. She’s in a lavender marriage – her husband is gay – and she doesn’t receive the emotional fulfillment that a woman expects in a marriage. Playing this character wasn’t easy, but it was incredibly satisfying.
- You also sang a song in the show. What was that experience like?
Yes! The director asked me if I could sing a Rajasthani folk song for the show. I was hesitant at first, but he had immense faith in me. When we shot the climax scene and that song played, it turned out to be an emotional and intense moment for me.
- How do you feel about the appreciation you're receiving from the audience?
As an actor, the audience's love is the biggest reward. When I did The Test Case, CRPF and BSF women officers told me how the show inspired them. That kind of impact – there’s nothing greater than that.
- How was your experience working with producer Ekta Kapoor?
I consider Ekta Ma’am the queen of entertainment. Her grasp on storytelling and audience pulse is incredible. She’s a true visionary. She gave me The Test Case even before web series were a trend. And now she’s given me a powerful project like Kull. I’ll always be grateful to her.
- Can you share details about your upcoming projects?
Yes, I have a project titled Section 84 with Amitabh Bachchan Sir, which may release later this year or early next year. There are 2–3 other projects in the pipeline, but I’ll talk about them once they’re finalized. For now, just enjoy Kull.
- Coming from an army family, how do you view the current state of the country?
I’m the daughter of a martyr. I’ve witnessed sacrifice in my family. It deeply pains me when terrorist attacks happen. I believe it's time we take a firm stand and adopt strict measures against terrorism. My prayers and support are always with our soldiers.
- What message would you like to give your audience?
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s shown so much love. To those who’ve already watched Kull, watch it again. And to those who haven’t – please do! It has everything – drama, emotion, politics, loyalty, betrayal – all of it.
‘Kull’ is now streaming on Hotstar, and it is receiving immense appreciation from viewers.
