You appeared very calm throughout the season. Was this your game strategy?

No, it wasn’t a strategy. I’m the same way in real life—not overly happy, not overly sad. One thing was clear, though: I wanted to play the game with dignity. I didn’t feel it was necessary to play Bigg Boss the way people usually do. I simply did what felt right to me.

What was more difficult—winning tasks or building relationships?

Tasks can still be won, but building relationships with the right people is the toughest part. In this house, relationships change every week. My victory started the moment I chose the right people. Pranit More and Mridul Tiwari aren’t just relationships from the house; they’re like younger brothers to me for life. Friendship means standing by someone at their highs and their lows. Even after my friend left the show, he stood by me like family. Friendship isn’t about making alliances over the weekend to escape nominations—it’s about commitment.

You won the show without fights or abusive language. How was that possible?

I don’t get involved in others’ fights. If it’s a house issue, I will speak—but in my own way. Not every point needs to be shouted. Sometimes a calm statement has a greater impact. If a needle does the job, why bring scissors?

After the show, you said you regret trusting people too quickly. Who were you referring to?

I give everyone an equal chance and trust people wholeheartedly. But sometimes you realize the other person’s perspective is different. Then you understand that if they’re playing a game, you have to play the game too. That’s all.

Malti Chahar said you were acting. What would you say to that?

When a director as big as Farah Khan says it was a “Gaurav Khanna show,” should I believe her or people who are just making statements? I said whatever came from my heart. Maybe that’s why I connected with the audience.

Did the things people said about you after the show affect you?

Not at all. If those things could have harmed me, I probably wouldn’t have won the show. Those who couldn’t defeat me face-to-face—what could they possibly do outside? I’ve always trusted my work and the truth. Rumors and outside talk can’t shake my focus, because the real battle happens on the stage, not behind the scenes.

Was Bigg Boss 19 the right season for you?

You can’t decide that beforehand. You only find out once you enter the house and see who the people are and what they’re like. Every season is different, every cast is different, and everyone’s experience varies. Circumstances, relationships, and challenges decide how right a season turns out to be.

You became emotional during the media round. Why?

When there’s no solid reason to break someone from within, external things are made into issues. Some matters were unnecessarily blown out of proportion. Emotions overwhelmed me at that moment, but what gave me peace was the unwavering support from my fans. Especially regarding comments about Akanksha—viewers understood the truth and supported us, which became my biggest strength.

Tell us about your journey so far -

I came to Mumbai in 2003. I completed my MBA and worked as a marketing manager for some time. But my heart was always drawn to the creative field. I started modeling and then stepped into television. Since then, the journey has continued—full of struggle and countless learnings.

How has your YouTube journey been after Bigg Boss?

So far, it’s been quite good. Crossing 50,000 subscribers at the very start was a huge motivation. There were a few technical issues in between, but that’s part of the learning curve. I’m confident everything will be sorted soon, and I’ll connect with audiences through even better content.

If Bigg Boss were a Bollywood film, what would its title be?

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Can you explain that title a bit?

Something is always happening in the Bigg Boss house. It could also be called Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham or Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. It’s like a full film of life playing out there.

If the mic were removed, what would you say first—and to whom?

I’d say to Bigg Boss, “Okay, Bigg Boss,” because he was always telling me, “Gaurav, wear your mic properly.”
