Salman Khan on 'Sikandar' Press Meet: "I’m Not a Self-Made Person, But..."

Salman Khan, known as the “Bhai” of Bollywood, is bringing his new film Sikandar to the audience this Eid. The film's trailer has already been released and has received an overwhelming response from the viewers. His fans are eagerly awaiting its release in theaters. Recently, Salman Khan, also known as Sikandar, hosted a press meet where he not only talked about his upcoming film but also shared his thoughts on various topics, including his family, struggles, and more. Here’s what he had to say.

Salman Khan on Sikandar & Nepotism: "I'm Not Self-Made"

During the press meet, a journalist asked Salman Khan about a famous line from Sikandar: “In the film, Sikandar says, ‘Destiny did not make me Sikandar, I carved myself into Sikandar with my own hands.’ If we consider this in your context, since you are considered a self-made person, what would you say about it?” Salman Khan replied, “Look, I am not a self-made person, and I don’t believe anyone on this Earth is truly self-made. If my father, Salim Khan, hadn’t come to Mumbai from Indore, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I would probably still be working on a farm in Indore. But he came here, and he became a great artist, actor, producer, and director in India. He found work thanks to his abilities. His decision to come here turned out to be the best one for me because, as a result, we settled here, and this is how I became Salman Khan. But today, we call it ‘nepotism.’”

Salman also shared a story about his grandfather, Abdul Rashid Khan, who was a DIG in the police force.

On Pressure in Filmmaking:

A journalist asked about the pressure faced by filmmakers compared to actors. Salman Khan said, “When films succeed, everything seems perfect. People praise the film, saying it’s great. But when a film fails, people criticize it. Understand this: just like any business, there are profits and losses. The same goes for films.”

He also spoke about the current down phase in the film industry. He said, “When so many bad films are made, they are bound to flop. Some of those films even include mine. If a film doesn’t do well, it doesn’t necessarily mean it's bad. But if a film works, people call it good.”

Emotional and Action Elements in Sikandar:

Salman was asked about what made him choose Sikandar. He responded, “What I really liked about the film was the emotional aspect. Also, the combination of action and drama is fantastic. Plus, the film delivers a meaningful message to the audience. All in all, the film has everything.”

On Working with Pakistani Actresses:

When asked about the change in the industry where now even Pakistani actresses want to work with him, Salman jokingly said, “I’ll talk to the government and get them a visa, or maybe I’ll just play a cricket match instead.”

Will the Three Khans Work Together?

A question was raised about whether Salman, Shah Rukh, and Aamir Khan would ever come together in a film. Salman replied, “It all depends on the script. If we get a script that suits us, we would love to work together. However, no one has ever offered us a film with all three of us. If we come together, it will undoubtedly be a big film, and the director will have to work hard. Plus, the budget will be huge, and no one will be able to make a film with us unless the director is very skilled.”

Salman also talked about his collaborations with South Indian filmmakers. He said, “I’ve worked with South Indian actors, producers, and directors. But it’s also true that I have fans all over India. As more of our films are released in the South, South Indian actors will also come here to work with us.”

Will Salman Work with Janhvi and Ananya?

During the press meet, Salman said, "People have made a lot of comments about the age difference between me and my co-star Rashmika in my film. Now, if I have to work with Janhvi Kapoor or Ananya Pandey, I will have to think about it, but I would still work with them."

Changing Trends in the Film Industry:

Salman was asked why older films had more emotional depth compared to modern films. He said, “Earlier, films were different. Today, the context has changed. Actors and actresses are now educated abroad, and their way of speaking and acting is different. Earlier films had a lot of action and drama. Nowadays, you see less of that.”

On Threats He Has Received:

Regarding the threats he has received, Salman said, “Whatever age I have been allotted, I will live that long. That’s it. Sometimes, it’s difficult to handle so many people, and that’s where the problems arise.”

Salman also mentioned that Sikandar will be released on March 30. Directed by AR Murugadoss, who previously directed Ghajini, the film stars Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, with Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, and Prateik Babbar in key supporting roles. The film’s advance booking started on March 25.

Salman on Maya Puri Magazine

Salman Khan has graced the cover of Maya Puri, India’s oldest and most widely circulated Hindi weekly entertainment magazine, several times, including in editions 884, 923, 1167, 2329, 2331, and 2358. Once again, he is featured on the cover of the magazine. Maya Puri extends its best wishes to Salman Khan for the success of his upcoming film Sikandar.
